Department:
742900 Pre/Post Op SurgExpectations:
Provides direct patient care service on a patient-centered care unit as determined by the patient's plan of care and supervised by a Registered Nurse or LIP.
This position may require flexibility of hours.
Education:
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalency.
Experience/Training:
One year of prior experience in clinical patient care in an acute care setting (Current CNA may be substituted for the one year experience requirement).
Basic computer skills/experience with computerized documentation systems preferred.
Knowledge/experience with use of medical terminology.
Licenses/Certifications:
Current American Heart Association BLS Provider required.
C.N.A. certification or certification in a related field preferred.

Additional Unit Specific Essential Functions:
1. Under the direction of the RN and while maintaining patient safety the PCA will:
a. Obtain and chart vital signs both pre and post procedure
b. Offers nourishments post procedure when appropriate
c. Assists with toileting
d. Assists with ambulation
e. Completes patient valuables list and labels belongings appropriately.
f. Completes cardiac and other pre-procedure preps when ordered. Follows Cardiac Surgery Preparation Policy for cardiac prep
2. Assists with turnover and set up of patient rooms
3. Assists with set up of special procedures including cardioversion, TEE, Bronchoscopy, and Urodynamic Study.
4. Delivers patient belongings to post surgical room
5. Reports needed equipment and department repairs to ext 2270. Informs PFC and manager of status
6. Provides support to unit secretary by demonstrating ability to process patient upon arrival to SDS and entering orders in Meditech
7. Maintains annual competencies and self studies. Attends a code blue drill every twelve months.
