Para Actuary - Life Insurance Pricing and Product Design

We're actively seeking a talented Para Actuary to join our Product Management team within Product Design in Aliso Viejo, CA. This role will sit onsite when we return to the office.

As a Para Actuary, you'll play a key role in Pacific Life's growth and long-term success by collaborating with actuaries and other professionals to develop solutions suitable to the challenges and opportunities faced by the firm and the industry. This role is focused on meeting the analytical needs for the product design team which can include, but not limited to analytical support current and future product pricing initiatives, profit analysis of current and future business, dashboard development, and process improvement and automation.You will fill a new role that sits on a team of five people in the recently formed Product Management team. This team is part of the Product Design department within the Life Insurance division. Your colleagues will include actuarial professionals ranging from Assistant Actuaries to Assistant Vice Presidents. Our team is highly collaborative and primarily focused on how we can best provide data analytics and product management support to create the best value products to our customers.

How you will make an impact:

• Participate in the measurement framework and dashboards to track the success of our inforce business, think strategically and creatively to improve profitability and draw other actionable business insights


• Stay close to the division's life insurance product and assumptions development process to provide analytical support, and be well-versed in actuarial concepts


• Contributing member of the Accelerated Underwriting team that drives new and innovative methods to underwrite our policies with focus on automation, predictive analytics, all while minimizing impact to mortality


• Think critically on the effects of various product levers in delivering sustainable value to customers, and how these can be adjusted to meet their needs appropriately


• Understand the effects of various product features on top line and bottom line results


• Collaborate effectively with product actuaries and other professionals

The experience you will bring:

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent work experience


• Strong written and verbal communication skills


• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required


• Some exposure to coding in R / Python


• Self-motivated to learn the latest programming skills and actuarial projection platform


• Ability to deliver timely, organized and consistent results

What will make you stand out:

• Any insurance experience


• Familiarity with actuarial projection platform including MG-ALFA, Prophet, and GGY-Axis


• Experience visualizing and presenting findings taken from large sets of data


• Experience working with regulatory concepts (PBR, GAAP, IFRS17) a plus


• Coding knowledge of other languages
