ADVANCED VEHICLE OPERATOR

Operate commercial motor vehicles safely and efficiently to transport freight between company locations or designated points in-between. Operate a tractor-trailer combination in urban, suburban, and rural areas and in all types of weather conditions. Perform all safety inspections. Safely maneuver vehicle at varying speeds in difficult situations, such as heavy traffic, inclement weather, or in tight loading dock areas. Perform all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures, and comply with all Federal, State, and Local laws, rules, and regulations for the safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle.

CDL Truck Driver Job Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Fully understand how to operate and safely drive your assigned vehicle

  • Pick-up and safely transport goods to the intended destination

  • Ensure contents are properly secured in a truck, flatbed to prevent damage/injury

  • Obtain signatures to confirm and complete deliveries

  • Assist in mapping driving routes

  • Stay on a predetermined route and ensure timely transport and delivery

  • Communicate with dispatch as needed

  • Perform inspections of your vehicle prior to and following each trip

  • Follow delivery schedule and rest at appropriate times

  • Maintain detailed driving and delivery logs

  • Track and report working hours on trip sheets

  • Adhere to company rules and regulations

  • Obey all applicable traffic laws and drive in according to the weather/road conditions

  • Comply with DOT regulations

  • Always make safety a priority

CDL Truck Driver Requirements and Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred

  • Must possess a CDL Class A's driver license

  • 2+ years of proven experience in commercial truck driving preferred

  • Clean driving record with no moving violations

  • Must pass a background check and drug test

  • Skilled at driving and parking large, heavy vehicles

  • Alert, focused, and detail-oriented

  • Physically and mentally fit

  • An innate sense of direction

  • Disciplined, dependable, and resourceful

  • High level of composure and good stress management

Physical Demands:

  1. Standing 7% of the time (monitoring loading/unloading of a load; pumping fuel; receiving instruction/routes from dispatchers)

  2. Sitting 70% of the time (driving tractor; waiting on a shipment to be loaded; updating log/trip sheets)

  3. Moving 10% of the time (going inside locations to retrieve bills/load; inspecting tractors/trailers on yard; preparing trucks for movement)

  4. Climbing 6% of the time (climbing stairs from location docks to yard; entering cab of tractor)

  5. Lifting 1% of the time (chock blocks 11lb waist high to place under trailer; supplies from ground to cab 36in. 0-100 lbs.; adjusting freight in trailer 0-100lbs; mail bags 0-20lbs from lower bins to trailer)

  6. Pushing/Pulling 2% of time (opening doors, trailer doors, trailer landing gear; pulling lever to release fifth wheel, pushing tractor clutch with left foot; twisting and pulling air line from tractor while leaning; air horn handle above head

  7. Reaching 2% of the time (reaching for knobs on dash 12-24in; radio handset on side of seat 12in; air horn above head 20in.; airlines when hooking up trailer; fifth wheel lever 3 feet while leaning

  8. Bending/Stooping 2% of time (inspecting equipment and work areas; lowering trailer legs; releasing fifth wheel)

Work Environment:

Environmental working conditions vary and associate may encounter vibration, noise, odors, and extremes in temperature and wind as well as exposure to varied weather, varied surfaces, varied lighting and confined and congested areas and occasional exposure to petroleum-based products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, oil, and grease.
