Director, Custom Investment Strategy at Prudential Ins Co of America in Hartford, Connecticut

Job Description:

This position is responsible for client-facing interactions with financial intermediaries and plan sponsors (both in-force and prospective) to promote Prudential Retirement’s investment product capabilities and drive profitable results.  This individual is a member of a team delivering investment consulting and support services to Prudential Retirement’s Full Service client base as a registered representative of PIMS and will possess in-depth knowledge of Prudential’s full product suite as well as the broader asset management industry.  The individual will be the primary liaison to associates from Sales & Strategic Relations, Full Service Solutions client-facing teams and other individuals involved in new business and client service activities within his or her specified coverage area, and will serve as the lead client-facing investment specialist on client relationships, intermediary relationships, and sales opportunities in the Key Account space, with some exposure to the Core and Small/Mid (i.e. Non-Key Account) markets.  The objective of the role is to strike a balance of satisfying client, advisor, and prospect investment needs while driving proprietary product adoption and defending in-force proprietary assets, resulting in increased client persistency, new business, and favorable economics. 

Key responsibilities and activities include:


  • Provide consultative investment expertise to clients, prospects, and/or financial intermediaries within the scope of Prudential Retirement’s Full Service business, assuming the lead role in comprehensively managing the investment component of client and advisor relationships


  • Act as a subject matter expert of Prudential Retirement investment products, third party offerings in the retirement marketplace, as well as the broader landscape of the US economy as it relates to the retirement industry.  Products include but are not limited to: retail mutual funds, registered and unregistered insurance company separate accounts, variable annuities, stable value, collective investment trusts, exchange traded funds, asset allocation (risk based) funds, target date funds, and retirement income products. 


  • Manage the in-force investment opportunity pipeline for an entire Key Account team’s collective book of business and be accountable for ongoing results while cultivating investment acceptance and adoption with advisors from our top tier intermediary channels. 


  • Serve as the lead investment liaison with sales producers and larger new business prospects and be the driver of favorable investment economics with onboarding clients, once again interacting with key intermediaries from national firms.


  • Lead initiatives that involve engagement with senior level business partners from across the organization or externally (i.e. Key Account book of business reviews, partnerships with Strategic Relations, design and execution of investment sales training, fund partner relationships/negotiations, and other projects to support profitability enhancement of the Full Service business).


  • Maintain an understanding of Prudential Retirement processes and procedures relative to compliance, operational, legal and communications processes/systems


  • Maintenance of all requisite certifications and licenses

  • Acute knowledge of internal organizational structure, along with an ability to navigate the organization and influence business partners to drive positive outcomes


  • Ability to meet evolving client/advisor needs using available capabilities in a timely fashion


  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, including the ability to be persuasive and motivational


  • Sound intuition to think quickly and communicate critical information in a positive manner with the audience's perspective in mind


  • Ability to organize, prioritize and time manage to meet deadlines


  • Effective matrix management skills


  • Team player


  • Capable of high performance in a fast paced environment


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree required; CFA and/or MBA preferred but not required


  • Minimum of 10 years of investment, financial/retirement services and/or product management/development experience in financial services, with a minimum of 5 years in a client-facing setting


  • Experience with Prudential’s book of business and investment product suite highly desired


  • Experience leading projects or initiatives highly desired


  • Advanced understanding of investment concepts and products, particularly in their application within retirement programs


  • Exceptional written, verbal and motivational skills


  • Strong organizational skills


  • FINRA Series 6 & 63 and state insurance licenses required with 120 days of hire


  • Ability to travel up to 25%
