Job Description



TheHardware Building Blocks Engineeringunit is responsible for developing hardware andembedded processing system-basedinstrumentation and control(I&C)equipmentused onboard naval nuclear vessels.The successful candidate will contribute to the design, test, and production of currently fielded and next generationcircuit cards and displaysthatprocessdigitalcontrol and communication signals and interface with other I&C equipment. An understanding of circuit analysis; C/C++ embedded software; Very High Speed Integrated Circuit (VHSIC) Hardware Description Language (VHDL) programmable logic; embedded system design; communication protocols; and use of test equipment will be leveraged and developed by the candidate to successfully contribute to the development of I&C equipment from conceptual design through production. Some of the communication protocols include Serial Rapid IO (SRIO), Ethernet, and Synchronous Data Link Control (SDLC). The successful candidate will be responsible for developing hardware level requirements; reviewing detailed supplier designs; and developing and executing test plans, including required LabVIEW or C/C++ software, to ensure the system requirements are being fulfilled. Execution of work tasks will be performed in an agile development environment as an independent contributing member of an energetic design team. The successful candidate will drive and coordinate efforts and communications between numerous organizations in order to effectively develop I&C equipment that meets all the needs of the end users. Interested applicants must excel at working in a cross-site fashion and be willing to actively improve efficiency in this environment.







Required Skills



Senior:


  • BS degree in Electrical or Computer engineering from an accredited college or university and a minimum of six years of relevant experience; or

  • MS degree in Electrical or Computer engineering from an accredited college or university and a minimum of four years of relevant experience;

Principal:


  • BS degree in Electrical or Computer engineeringfrom an accredited college or university and a minimum of nine years of relevant experience; or

  • MS degree in Electrical or Computer engineeringfrom an accredited college or university and a minimum of seven years of relevantexperience;

Candidates at either levelmust have demonstratedexperience in at least two of the following areas:


  • Microprocessor basedequipment (embedded systems)

  • Control system software/hardware development

  • Digital design

  • C/C++ programming

  • VHSIC Hardware Description Language (VHDL)







Preferred Skills




  • Experience with National Instruments' LabVIEW.

  • Experience writing formal correspondenceandfunctional requirements.

  • Ability to workindependently as well asin a collaborative environment.

  • Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to emergent technology trends in order to produce state of the art I&C equipment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to articulate technical ideas in a clear and concise manner via formal correspondence, meetings, and presentations.
