Job Description:

Reporting directly to the Chief Compliance & Litigation Officer, the Associate Counsel, Litigation will be responsible for assisting the Chief Compliance & Litigation Officer and Assistant General Counsel, Litigation with the handling, management, and resolution of litigation and pre-litigation disputes for all business units within the Americas.

Essential Job Functions, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Business, Risk and Executive Management to resolve claims in an effort to avoid litigation.

  • Work closely with the Business to help manage issues to position the Company should litigation ensue.

  • Assist in the management of all active litigation and disputes to ensure Lendlease's legal representations are of the highest quality, including the day-to-day running of matters, overall strategy, written work product, and oral advocacy.

  • Review and approve pleadings, motions, and written discovery and attend court hearings, depositions, mediations, and arbitrations when required.

  • Collaborate with business partners to develop litigation strategy and ensure goal alignment across cross-functional teams.

  • Apprise internal stakeholders on litigation developments, changes to strategy, and legal spend.

  • Oversee outside counsel, including management of litigation budgets.

  • Work with Finance and Risk Management to establish appropriate reserves on a quarterly basis.

  • Provide rapid, practical, business-oriented legal advice to Business Units and Functions.

  • Proactively work with business units to resolve potential legal matters where appropriate.

  • Devise and implement litigation-related, scalable processes and procedures to navigate commonly encountered legal issues.

  • Assist Insurance & Risk with management of insured claims and other coverage issues.

  • Oversee internal investigations across a range of legal and compliance matters.

  • Draft internal policies as necessary.

  • Prepare and present training to Company employees on relevant legal topics.

  • Assist in preparing of internal reporting.

General Background and Minimum Requirements


  • Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited school required.

  • +/- 6 years of legal experience in commercial or business litigation.

  • Prior in-house experience a plus but not necessary.

  • Prior relevant work in the construction industry is highly preferred.

  • Strong working knowledge of eDiscovery practices and procedures.

  • Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to recognize situations/problems, develop alternative solutions and implement decisions compatible with organizational goals.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to successfully interface with outside attorneys, senior management, and internal employees.
