General Description:

Under general direction supervises and coordinates the day-to-day operation of the laboratory department.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Directs campus wide department activities of a laboratory section with an emphasis on operational functions as needed for quality care


• Performs periodic quality data reviews


• Assists in maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies


• Recruits, manages, and evaluates personnel in the department


• Manages equipment, materials, and supplies required in the section


• Reports toDirector and performs duties delegated by Director


• Works at the bench when needed

General Responsibilities:

• Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in biological science or medical technology

Experience: Five (5) years experience in a clinical laboratory setting. Prefer three (3) years' experience are in an acute care hospital setting.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Based on assignment, a nationally recognized certification from the appropriate lab discipline may be required. Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of supervisory functions such as ability to solve client problems, performance improvement tools, etc. Computer literate. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must able to prioritize and manage several tasks at one time.
