Cornell University invites applications for an Associate Director for Campus Activities within the department of Campus and Community Engagement. In collaboration with the Director of Campus Activities, the Associate Director will support departmental strategic planning efforts, track long-range goals, action plans, and evaluation strategies for supporting student organizations and activities at Cornell. This position provides high level advising and guidance to the primary student programming boards on campus, and is also responsible for developing programs that enhance the co-curricular experience for students on and off campus. This role serves as a critical member of the university events team (UET), providing insight to student event planners and useful resources for successful event planning. In collaboration with departments across campus, this position will coordinate risk and liability requirements with student organizations that require additional resources. As a senior member of the Campus Activities team, this position will provide day-to-day guidance, direction, and, supervision to other members (professional and/or students) of the office all in support of creating an excellent student engagement experience at the university.

Key success factors for this role are:


  • Strong supervision and leadership skills, including both creating strategic visions and the ability to lead others through program implementation, including student development initiatives.

  • The ability to build and foster strong relationships with multiple constituents, including students, advisors, external partners as well as staff across the university.

  • Impeccable organization and the ability to prioritize multiple competing priorities with sound judgement while working with internal and external constituencies to consistently meet deadlines

  • Strong data collection, analysis and reporting skills

Required Qualifications


  • Master's degree in Student Affairs or related field and a minimum of 3 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience with implementing student affairs best practices including, event planning resources, collaborative and meaningful program creation, advising student organizations, and developing student leader trainings.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • The applicant must be willing to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications


  • 5 years of experience in student affairs or a related field.

  • Experience with program planning, leadership development and large scale programming.
