Reports to Laboratory Manager or Director. Processes test orders. Performs specimen collection and all related tasks for processing the specimen. Coordinates activities of the phlebotomy/processing areas. Performs moderately complex testing bedside. Ensures all work activities are performed according to established policies and procedures.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
The above level of knowledge, skills and ability are normally acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma and a minimum of three years of phlebotomy experience. Certification (ASCP or equivalent) in phlebotomy is strongly preferred. Must have valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Qualifies as testing personnel for moderately complex testing as defined under CFR 493.125.
Knowledge & Skills
Demonstrate solid knowledge of medical laboratory procedures and testing systems.
Requires working knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations and accrediting agencies.
Requires technical knowledge of LIS and its applications.
Demonstrates interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills necessary to coordinate associates in daily operations and to interact effectively with physicians, patients, visitors and other contacts.

Working Conditions
Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous substances, chemicals and other conditions common to a hospital laboratory.

Physical Demands
Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
