Open to experienced modelmakers or entry level with completed apprenticeship or associate degree.

What Your Impact Will Be:


  • Leads low to medium model making projects; builds functioning low to medium complexity prototype models from design sketches with simple mechanisms.

  • Rarely acts independently and receives guidance and direction on all projects.

  • Receives direction from a lead model maker and partners with design and development on any product clarification/specifications.

  • Assisting in ideation and invention in support of the development of products by larger and/or more complicated projects led by Sr or Master Model Maker.

  • Assemble, sand, prime, and paint, and deliver final, low to medium complexity models for FEP, Concept Design, ICR, toy shows, viability testing, Line Reviews, etc.

  • Support toy fair models, onsite modifications and improvements as needed.

  • Acts independently on less complicated projects, may require management interaction to meet critical deadlines.

  • Cross-train with higher level model makers to increase skillset.

  • Adhere to safe working practices.

  • Support DIJ and large format printing and heat transfer operations.


What We're Looking For:


  • Completion of Mattel's 4 year Model Maker Apprentice program (preferred) or another equivalent apprenticeship program OR Associate degree or equivalent education plus 2 years experience as a Model Maker in the toy industry preferred

  • 2+ years of job related experience in Model Making trade to include 2 years experience as a Model Maker in the toy industry preferred.

  • Working understanding of model making principles and practices.

  • Working understanding of at least one of specialized discipline (e.g. Roto-Casting, Roto-Molding, Decal process, Casting, Color Matching, Laser Cutting, CNC, Tube Bending, 3DP etc.).

  • Working understanding of all shop machinery (mills, drill press, lathes, grinders, wood shop, table saw, band saw) etc.

  • Interest or basic utilization of 3D CAD tools

  • Basic understanding of rubber mold process and mold making.

  • Working knowledge of the policies and procedures used in the job.

  • Experience with or ability to train for DIJ and large format printing.
