Job Description



The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a Radiological Controls Technicianto support the Moored Training Ship organizationat Goose Creek, South Carolina!The site operates the Moored Training Ships to provide training and certification of Navy Operators prior to their assignment to the fleet.

Some of the essential duties will include, but are not limited to:



  • Conducting training events for personnel in the area of radiological controls




  • Writing lesson plans and practical exercise packages for review




  • Executing training lectures and practical examinations using state of the art training facilities




  • Maintaining training records




  • Providing workplace monitoring of radiological work




  • Participatingin the development of training schedules



More about the position:



  • The position requires the ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with navy and civilian personnel




  • This position requires working with and around equipment, material, and systems which are sources of low levels of radioactivity




  • This position normally is a day shift position however, it may require some overtime on evenings




  • This position includes involvement in the Emergency Response Organization, a group of dedicated professionals committed to ensuring a satisfactory level of site emergency preparedness




  • *This position must attain andmaintain radiological controls qualifications



*Attaining initial radiological controls qualifications requires the candidates to successfully complete the Radiological Controls Technician Qualification School at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Attending this school will require temporary assignment to Norfolk Virginia for approximatelyfivemonths. Expenses while attending Radiological Controls Technician School will be covered by the company. Previous completion of this school satisfies this requirement.







Required Skills



Intermediate:


  • High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of eight years of relevant experience; OR

  • Associate degree in technical, engineering, or science related discipline from an accredited college or universityand a minimum of four years of relevant experience; OR

  • Bachelordegree in technical, engineering, or science relateddiscipline from an accredited college or university



Senior:


  • High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of tenyears of relevant experience; OR

  • Associate degree in technical, engineering, or science related discipline from an accredited college or universityand a minimum of sixyears of relevant experience; OR

  • Bachelordegree in technical, engineering, or science relateddiscipline from an accredited college or university and a minimum of twoyears relevant experience







Preferred Skills



- Candidates who have completed theRadiological Controls Technician Qualification School (RCTQS) at Norfolk Naval Shipyard

- Previous Naval Radiological Controls experience (ELT or RCT)
