Job Purpose
Supports new product developments in the areas of reserve and motive power energy storage systems. This position will report to the Systems Engineering Manager and will be responsible for product design and specification to meet the functional, quality, and safety requirements of board level PCB designs. The successful candidate should have experience in the design, prototyping, testing, and release of microcontroller based electronics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Performs research and investigations in areas of complex PCB design for microprocessor based PCBA's utilized in Motive, Telecommunications, and Reserve Power Products
Applies systems engineering principles and design processes
Independently evaluates system requirements and decompose into applicable electronic / hardware design specifications
Design and configure new battery management and power systems, and upgrade electronic systems currently in place.
Select appropriate board level components to meet system requirements.
Design and document new wiring and peripheral equipment
Provide input for model development and simulation analysis
Provide PCB layout guidance and rules for optimal board design for given applications
Test plan generation and execution validating electrical subsystems and PCBs
Consult with suppliers on test plans and results
Identify and validate performance of all systems and sub-systems down to component level.
Analysis of test results providing actionable technical reports and proposals for design updates
Exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
Lead subsystem design on a primary project
Contribute to development and on-time execution of project schedules
Independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform a task or sequence of tasks for conventional projects with few complex features
Collaboratively uses judgment and works with team to determine adaptations in methods for nonroutine aspects of assignments
Oversee and review work products by other engineers
Design, implement, and integrate new technologies towards automation of testing
Assist in the implementation of risk assessment tools such as FTA, FMEA, and HAZOPs
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated experience with Altium PCB layout, design, routing and PCBA packaging tools.
Demonstrated Electronics System Design experience including, but not limited to, detailed knowledge and design with medium/high power relays, contactors, current shunts, bus bars and cabling.
Demonstrated ability to work with power testing equipment including load banks / cyclers (NHR), DAQ (Agilent), HV probes and oscilloscopes.
Ability to generate automated test scripts for programming, test and troubleshooting.
Demonstrated experience designing complex microprocessor based PCBA design for systems including, but not limited to, power conversion, and wired/wireless communications (CAN, SPI, UART, I2C, RS485/Modbus, 802.15.4, 802.11)
Experience with design modifications, including soldering components and implementation of fixtures.
Experience with testing electrical systems / batteries including standard measurement and safety equipment (experience working with voltages up to 1000Vdc / 600Vac is a plus)
Shows enthusiasm, motivation, and ability to work with technical engineers and scientists.
Possesses efficient time management skills and ability to multi-task in a cross-functional team
Identify and apply lessons learned to correct technical quality related issues
Have excellent problem solving skills and the ability to write technical documents clearly and concisely
Demonstrates attention to detail and problem solving skills.

Experience developing scripts using VBA, JavaScript, LabView, Python, or similar
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline and 5 years' experience
Master's degree or higher in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline and 2 years' experience
1 to 3 years' experience developing and/or testing product performance and safetyto meet applicable industrial standards and government regulations
Experience with energy storage or renewable energy systems is desired
