Job Description:

Research Specialist II

US-NJ-Princeton

Job ID: 2021-12950
Type: Full-Time
# of Openings: 1
Category: Research and Laboratory

Princeton University

Overview

Princeton University's Department of Molecular Biology seeks applicants for a Research Specialist position to join a collaborative project in the Gavis and Myhrvold labs using programmable, CRISPR-Cas13 technology to track RNAs in living cells and to perturb RNAs with temporal and spatial resolution during development.

RNAs are often transported to distinct locations within the cell cytoplasm. Such localization provides the means to produce proteins on site, precisely where and only where they are needed and can play an important role in cellular and developmental processes. This project leverages the expertise of the Myhrvold lab in CRISPR-Cas13 RNA-targeting tools with the expertise of the Gavis lab in RNA localization to develop tools to study when, where, and why RNAs localize in cells.

We seek a highly motivated individual to work closely with members of the Gavis and Myhrvold labs in an exciting fast-paced research area. The ability to communicate effectively, to work well in a team setting and independently, and a strong desire to learn new methods is required. The applicant will perform molecular cloning, DNA/RNA preparation, qPCR, Drosophila genetic manipulations, and confocal imaging. This position will allow for professional advancement, skill development, and co-authorship on high-impact publications.

A cover letter outlining general interests, and career goals should be submitted with a CV/Resume to consider the application complete.

This position is a one-year term with possibility of renewal.
