Med Lab Technician Specialist at Common Spirit Health in Little Rock, Arkansas

1.     Operations

Receive and process specimens for analysis, maintain integrity of specimens and ensure proper patient identification.

Operate and maintain specialized laboratory equipment, perform routine maintenance and notify supervisor of any repairs needed.

Instruct student in test procedures and general laboratory operation.

Efficiently uses supplies, reagents, and materials through effective cost-control measures.

2.     Communication

       Report test results accurately through computer and manual requisitions; collate data for clinical        interpretation, recognizing and reporting critical data in a timely manner.

       Maintain a thorough knowledge of the department and hospital computer systems.

       Communicates with appropriate individuals regarding specimen acceptability, test results,                   abnormal findings, and any other questions.

 
 

3.     Technical

Conduct tests with minimal supervision according to departmental procedures in assigned area. Maintain a working knowledge of all tests in department procedure manuals, ensuring proficiency in area of specialty.

Prepare and properly label reagents and solutions as required, utilizing basic manual skills to include pipetting, dilutions and calculations.

Keep abreast of and follow infectious agent precautions (OSHA Guidelines) and all department safety policies.

Perform other duties as required.

Education: High school diploma, GED, Metropolitan Test or equivalent.  Medical Technology student who had completed didactic training as well as internship in the area of hiring.

Experience: At least four (4) years workplace experience (in the specialty area designated on the job requisition) at an accredited hospital.

           

Physical Requirements: This job requires, at various times, the following physical activities; climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, carrying, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, talking, and hearing, sometimes exerting in excess of 10-50 pounds of force.

The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform daily activities.

The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions, hazards (including electrical currents and exposure to chemicals), and infectious diseases.

Skills: Must possess demonstrated ability to perform complex test within the specialty of hiring.  Must possess the ability to make arithmetic computations.  Must possess the ability to read and comprehend technical manuals.  Must possess manual dexterity.
