The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be solving complex problems and impacting products across the broad 3M portfolio. The Automated Inspection and Measurement group is responsible for fundamental technology development, application investigations, system integration and deployment, and long-term support across many 3M divisions in the areas of automated inspection, measurement, machine vision, automation, and process data systems. This group is part of 3M’s Digital Transformation which will enable opportunities for collaborative efforts with priority software and data driven initiatives across 3M’s Digital groups.

In this position, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

• Developing Full Stack software for 3M automated inspection & measurement solutions


• Working in a team environment to lead, conceptualize, and implement solutions across the 3M inspection ecosystem, with an emphasis on front-end web app development


• Supporting inspection system software across the global 3M manufacturing footprint


• Providing leadership and mentoring to team members


• Work effectively with minimal direct supervision, identify and initiate value-add opportunities


• Adhering to team design and coding procedures and standards

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

• Master’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) in computer science, computer engineering, or Engineering field from an accredited institution OR Bachelor’s degree (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution and two (2) years of software/engineering experience in lieu of Masters Degree education requirement

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

• Effective leadership, communication, organization, and team skills


• Experience working in cross-functional R&D teams to develop world-class systems


• Foundation in modern JavaScript/Typescript and the Angular framework


• Basic understanding of the principles of machine learning and image processing


• Solid understanding of SQL


• Experience with source control tools such as GIT, etc.


• Experience developing C# in the .NET framework


• Experience using RESTful Web Services

Travel: May include up to (10%)(domestic/international)
