Financial Aid Student Services Assistant at Cornell University in ithaca, New York

Job Description:

Cornell, an Ivy League institution with an undergraduate enrollment of over 15,000 students, in eight different schools and colleges, seeks a Financial Aid Student Services Assistant in the Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment. As a Financial Aid Student Services Assistant, this position will regularly provide high-level customer service on the phones, email and front desk and will assist with processing of financial aid materials on an as needed basis. This position uses PeopleSoft for RUSS processing.

As part of the Enrollment division, the Office of Financial Aid is comprised of a team of 35 financial aid professionals dedicated to help students navigate the complex landscape of financial aid. Toward this goal, we work closely with Cornell's Office of Enrollment Compliance and Design, University Registrar, Undergraduate Admissions Office, and Office of the Bursar.

We are seeking a dynamic, hard-working financial aid professional who enjoys collaborating with colleagues and departments across campus, who can function exceptionally well in a team-based office. The ideal candidate will be able to balance working autonomously with highly detailed work and projects involving confidential and sensitive information.

This position is a full-time (1.0 FTE) benefits-eligible position. This position is located on the Ithaca campus with options for remote work.

Required Qualifications:


  • Associate's degree; technical/ vocational school degree; 2 - 4 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience in use of student information systems.

  • Experience serving as a customer service representative or other similar position.


  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite. Willingness and ability to learn and quickly adapt to new technologies, business processes, and procedures.

  • Outstanding customer service and attention to detail.

  • Ability to establish effective and productive working relationships.

  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion, integrity and professionalism.

  • Understanding of FERPA and other policies related to data privacy and ability to interpret and apply policies to daily work.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience using PeopleSoft.

  • Knowledge of the Cornell community.

  • Familiarity or experience with financial aid and student employment.

  • Experience with an email ticketing system, such as Remedy, and an imaging system, such as ImageNow.
