Manufacturing Technician II at II-VI Aerospace & Defense in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Job Description:

II-VI Aerospace & Defense designs, manufactures, assembles and tests precision optical systems and components. Our products have been deployed on military platforms such as submarines, tanks, missiles, fighter jets and UAV's. II-VI Optical Systems has grown over the years from a provider of specialty optical materials to a full service provider of optical components and optical systems.

Under direct supervision, performs basic manufacturing processes, including but not limited to substrate preparation, coating, patterning, retouch and finishing. Performs support functions with minor decision authority to keep the manufacturing running effectively, bringing bigger problems to management's attention.

Education:

High School Diploma or (GED) or equivalent experience with emphasis on math or science. Some college or vocational training in physical science, mathematics or engineering field preferred.

Work Experience:

Knowledge of photolithography or precision manufacturing techniques preferred; 3 to 5 years actual photolithography or related manufacturing experience desired.

Skills:


  • Fundamental math skills are required; advanced math skills (algebra, trigonometry) preferred.
  • Ability to read instructions and maintain concise written records are required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in furnished written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Basic skills in MS Office

Manufacturing - 75%

  • Demonstrates basic substrate handling, cleaning and cutting skills
  • Demonstrates ability to photoresist coat substrates utilizing appropriate apparatus and equipment; includes basic equipment preventative maintenance
  • Demonstrates use and operation of exposure units and ability to develop patterned/exposed coated substrates successfully
  • Understands and applies retouch skills before/after etch and at defect reduction stages when necessary
  • Ability to inspect work for compliance to work instructions and identify potential defects
  • Demonstrates knowledge of processes/procedures and the importance of following them in the prescribed manner while able to report any discrepancies in either verbal or written form to the appropriate lead.

Maintenance - 10%

  • Refill solvent containers & manufacturing supplies
  • Clean up workstations and surrounding area
  • Notify lead person when low on supplies

Handling/Packing - 5%

  • Safely package clean, finished product for shipment to customer
  • Safely package product for further processing at vendor

Documentation - 5%

  • Fill out shop orders and inspection reports as required
