Firmware Design Engineer (senior level) at II-VI Incorporated in San Jose, California

Job Description:

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Evaluate/review key customer product specifications; convert them into internal firmware, software, and testing spec and implementation guides
• Design and maintain firmware architecture including proprietary OS, integrated and periphery device control drivers, and feedback loop controls for best performance and minimum system cost
• Lead code developer for addressing key requirement such as time-critical communications, efficient digital signal processor interface, and mission-critical hardware controls
• Maintain and improve II-VI firmware development processes and code management systems for firmware quality control
• Design and improve the workflow of firmware configuration mechanism, regression tests, and production preparation
• Support marketing, sales, and FAE in solving production and customer field issues

• 5 years+ experience in embedded system design
• BS Required (MS Preferred), in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or equivalent field.

• Demonstrated capability in leading embedded systems architecture, codebase development, managing firmware development life cycle, and most importantly great business results
• Proficient oral and written communication skills within an organization and with industry
• Demonstrated success in coordinating, influencing, and organizing designs with cross-function teams within an engineering department
• Proficient in software design and significant coding practice
• Experienced with the I2C, MDIO, and SPI protocols
• Proficient in C/C++ and assembly
• Experience in optical transceiver design and implementation is a plus
