We support discovery science experiments in US and around the world, including CERN in Switzerland, deep underground mines in South Dakota and Canada, mountaintops in Arizona and Chile, and the South Pole.

The Fermilab Particle Physics Division seeks a highly motivated Sr. Analog Design Engineer to join its Electrical Engineering Department to play a leading role in the design, construction, and operations of leading-edge experiments across the full spectrum of Fermilab's research activities.

We are looking for


  • BS in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years or experience, or MSEE with 6+ years of proven ability to carry out complex projects.

  • Experience in low noise/low power analog design and system integration

  • Experience in supervising Printed Circuit Board layout, fabrication, and assembly

  • Readiness to work on ambitious projects with tight schedules

  • Capability to work as part of a design team in a research and development environment

  • Familiarity with principles of instrumentation, including test equipment and cryogenic a plus

  • Strong digital literacy and competence in performing analytical engineering calculations, in drawing schematics and documentation

  • Ability to supervise others

  • Firmware and computer or embedded software coding ability is a plus

The candidate must be capable of demonstrating good judgment and ability to perform independently and learn or improve upon required skillsets listed under job responsibilities.

Relocation assistance is available for this position.

Physical Activity and Work Requirements


  • Ability and willingness to occasionally work additional hours beyond the normal workdays and/or respond to emergency call-in.

  • Ability to travel by automobile and/or commercial air carrier both domestically and internationally.

  • Ability to travel between different work locations within the Fermilab site.

  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time.

  • Ability to work in areas designated as potentially oxygen deficient.
