We currently have an exciting opportunity available for an experienced Cloud Operations Architect.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Cloud Operations Architect role will utilize experience and expertise in cloud technologies to drive value to the business through a transition and adoption of a cloud operating model. This role will partner with the organization's broader cross-functional team to provide a clear path forward through the migration journey and ongoing cloud operations. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that cloud infrastructure meets business and IT needs, including reliability, maintainability, scalability, flexibility, and security.

Responsibilities

    Provide architecture and platform design for Envision's cloud capabilities while developing strategies aligned with other Enterprise IT Teams.
  • Works with EA peers (e.g., enterprise, business, information, solutions, and security architects) to analyze enterprise business context (business strategy and trends), as well as change requirements in other enterprise architecture viewpoints (such as business, information, and solution) to derive the future state cloud architecture. This includes defining the requirements, principles, and models that guide technology decisions for the enterprise.

  • Leads the analysis of the current cloud technology environment to detect critical deficiencies, legacy, and technical debt and recommends improvement solutions. In addition, lead the analysis of cloud technology trends to determine the potential impact on the enterprise cloud architecture.

  • Take a lead role in designing and implementing a cloud-focused infrastructure within Envision and provide technology tools that help create a competitive advantage for Envision to drive strategic business growth.

  • Drive engagements related to assessing, refactoring, and identifying opportunity for existing applications to take advantage of modern application architectures (e.g., microservices, containers)

  • Define and document architecture and technology standards, reference & solution architectures, constraints, and guidelines

  • Ensure compliance and security of cloud-hosted software applications. Optimize architectural resiliency, disaster recovery, and application operation.

  • Coaches, mentors, and collaborates with technical subject matter experts and enterprise architect (EA) peers to develop cloud architecture that enables and drives new business capabilities and operating models.

  • Take ownership in the process and leadership of the team in cloud strategy. Implement procedures for cloud adoption, integration, and implementation.

  • Implement processes for cloud adoption, integration, and implementation.

  • Defines high-level cloud migration plans to address the gaps between the future and current state, typically in sync with the IT budgeting or other capital planning processes.

  • Drives digital innovation by leveraging innovative new technologies and approaches to renovate, extend, and transform the existing core cloud technology base and IT estate.

  • Helps the enterprise architect define metrics to measure and demonstrate enterprise technology value.

  • Assist with designing the governance, assurance, and standards activities associated with ensuring enterprise cloud architecture compliance of projects and products.

  • Oversees and facilitates the research, evaluation, and selection of cloud technology and product standards and the design of standard configurations.

  • Identify the organizational impact (for example, on skills, processes, structures, and culture) and the financial impact of the enterprise cloud architecture.

  • Address aspects of cloud adoption in development, life cycle management, data security, enterprise management, governance, and more.

  • Act as cloud promoter for the value it brings the business. Understand how the cloud works with business and impacts various levels of the organization.

  • Leads a team of cloud engineers while leveraging subject matter experts from any other needed technical area.

  • Understanding of cloud value from a business standpoint. Ability to articulate value propositions and influence a technical decision-making discussion.

  • Plan and manage resources, ensuring all projects meet obligations, deadlines, and budget expectations.

  • Ability to effectively present information, respond to questions, and professionally interact with managers, employees, clients, vendors, and the general public. Prepare complex written and verbal materials, including

  • Lead cloud application design and integration initiatives and work alongside the IT team to deliver solutions. Ensure road-mapped solutions are repeatable and scalable.

  • Be able to communicate the cloud value proposition to various audiences, including review boards, senior management, cross-functional teams, and other relevant stakeholders.

  • Oversees, or consults on, cloud technology implementation and modification activities (for example, projects and products), particularly for new or shared infrastructure solutions.

  • Creates and delivers working, production-ready reference implementations that can be leveraged easily by agile teams

  • Ability to effectively present information, respond to questions, and professionally interact with managers, employees, clients, vendors, and the general public. Prepare complex written and verbal materials, including those articulating technical changes

  • Works closely with the product managers, product owners, and EA peers (e.g., enterprise, business, information, security, and solutions architects) to enable infrastructure agility, scalability, and resilience to support required product needs throughout a product's lifecycle.

  • Collaborates with business constituents, other EA team members, project teams, and staff in various IT functional areas as needed to fulfill the responsibilities described above.

  • Responsible for adhering to Information Security Policies and ensuring Envision is as secure as possible.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in a related field of computer science, information technology, or a related study, or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of five(5) years of design and implementation experience in IT, with deep knowledge in a minimum of two of the following technical disciplines: infrastructure and network design, application development, application programming interfaces (APIs), middleware, servers and storage, database management, and operations, clustering technologies, virtualization, cloud technologies, and active directory and protocols

  • Cloud-related certifications (especially AWS (Amazon Web Services) Associate or higher) are considered a plus.

  • Previous experience running day-to-day cloud operations and also large-scale cloud application deployments.

  • Three (3) years of hands-on experience architecting solutions on AWS, Azure, or GCP (Google Cloud Platform)

  • Solid understanding of product management, agile principles and development methodologies, and capability of supporting agile teams by providing advice and guidance on opportunities, impact, and risks, taking account of technical and architectural debt

  • Deep knowledge of cloud infrastructure (including infrastructure as code), applications, architecture (various platforms), best practices for integration, microservices, and DevOps. Ability to ensure and enforce compliance

  • Working knowledge of software development and automation tools and methodologies (Jenkins, Git, Terraform, Chef, Python, etc.)

  • Experience working with PaaS platforms like Pivotal, Cloud Foundry and OpenShift

  • Must be well-versed in the technical aspects of cloud architecture, including agile environments, emerging tech, software design, and more.

  • Understands cloud technology trends and the practical application of existing, new, and emerging technologies to enable new and evolving business and operating models.

  • Ability to recognize and define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and correct errors.

  • Must have understanding of the current state of infrastructure automation, continuous integration/delivery, SQL/NoSQL, security, networking, and cloud-based delivery models

  • Must be familiar with and confident in security aspects of cloud.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and delegate critical areas.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation

  • Understanding and knowledge of IT service management (ITSM) and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)

  • Understanding and knowledge of IT standards and controls
