Overview


The Healthcare Performance Improvement (HPI) Practice is seeking a Managing Consultant for the Portfolio Optimization team. Managing Consultants demonstrate a thorough understanding of all technical and management aspects of client service. They are capable of planning, budgeting, executing, and delivering discreet complex segments of large projects or all aspects of small or medium sized client assignments. This includes the delegation and monitoring of tasks performed by other team members and critically auditing all work performed under their supervision.


Critical Skills for Managing Consultants – Portfolio Optimization



  • Experience working with health system strategic objectives that include, but are not limited to Service Line Development, Strategic Planning and Business Development, Ambulatory Network Development, Referral Management and Practice Operations

  • Ability to identify gaps or trends in referral patterns within healthcare networks, familiar with third-party claims data, and general appreciation/understanding for how patients navigate through health systems

  • Strong preference for individuals with financial planning, decision support, or general healthcare finance experience

  • Must be able to draft pro-formas, understand general financial statements and present financial projections

  • Ability to identify and evaluate core and non-core service offerings within a health system

  • Understand major service lines within a healthcare system including Cardiology, General Surgery, Oncology, Women’s/Children’s, Neurology, Orthopedics, and Ancillary Networks

  • Ability to navigate legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements associated with a broad scope of health care service offerings

  • Deep understanding of current and evolving reimbursement practices across all domains of health care including urgent/emergent, inpatient, outpatient, post-acute, and ambulatory services for both professional and technical services

  • Ability to operationalize data and move beyond analytics

  • Experience working with hospital and ambulatory EMRs (EPIC, Cerner, etc.)

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills and confidence to interact with physicians and C-suite executives

  • Ability to participate in education sessions and Provider forums on new referral processes

  • Ability to facilitate process re-design workgroups, lead steering committees and manage all aspects of consulting implementation

  • Strong office productivity software skills including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

  • Creative, entrepreneurial minded with the desire to build best practice methodology 

Qualifications:



  • Prior experience in the healthcare industry required

  • 4+ years’ experience in hospital administration or 2+ years in healthcare performance management consulting

  • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration or equivalent or other comparable health related advanced degree
