Senior Scrum Master

Role Summary:


The Senior Scrum Master will guide and coach this team and organization to follow Agile/Scrum practices to produce high-quality work on multiple Application Development scrum teams. By doing so, the Scrum Master will help create self-organizing teams that are flexible and fully productive during sprints.


The Senior Scrum Master should be a self-starter and independent individual that is comfortable supporting and coaching multiple teams in Agile best practices with the confidence to guide the teams and remove impediments in achieving higher Scrum maturity. In addition, this individual will be responsible for collecting information and data on Scrum maturity levels within the team and presenting this to stakeholders. Overall, the Scrum Master is responsible for promoting, supporting, and growing Scrum maturity amongst the MVH Web and Enrollment teams.


In this role you will:



  • Be the Agile Scrum subject matter expert on multiple Application Development teams.

  • Lead and coach scrum ceremonies, attending daily standups for each team, providing cross-team coordination, and clearing blockers for product teams.

  • Work independently to assess, guide, coach, and mentor Product Owners, Development Teams, and Stakeholders to achieve higher levels of Scrum maturity, self-organization, and cross-functioning.

  • Provide and reports metrics like sprint velocity, capacity, and time to market.

  • Provide regular reports on sprint activity to all stakeholders.

  • Supporting and coaching the Product Owners on Scrum best practices.

  • Provide board updates and configurations within Team Foundation Server (TFS) for self-service executive status updates.

  • Ensure interruptions to sprint activity are minimized and deflected to product governance.

  • Help Product Owners in managing and streamlining work intake and prioritization processes.

  • Support Product Owners in effective Product Backlog management.

  • Work with BAs, Product Owners, and functional team managers to troubleshoot delivery concerns and ensure accountable, transparent progress against business objectives.

  • Build a culture of trust to facilitate healthy conflict resolution working directly with engineering resources to fine tune team dynamics and ensure a healthy team.

  • Facilitate Scrum events as needed or requested.

  • Help build a team culture of product ownership.

  • Guide the team through user story development and refinement best practices.

  • Coordinate service account password change events

You need to have:



  • U.S. citizenship is required for this position due to Department of Defense restrictions.

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent post high school and/or related work experience

  • 1 or more years of related work experience.


Preferred Skills:



  • 3 or more years of experience in Agile (Scrum, Lean, Kanban) environments as a Scrum Master.

  • 4 or more years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst.

  • Agile Certifications such as Professional Scrum Master (PSM).

  • Strong mentoring skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills necessary to guide and mentor the team.


This role is open to considering 100% remote work, we are highly interested in applicants that are regionally local to the Madison area, to be able to come into the office on occasion after Covid-19.

Working to support two scrum teams in our Application Development organization. The teams consist of developers, business analysts, testers, and product owners. We maintain critical applications for the TRICARE line of business supporting self-service, customer-service, and enrollment departments.
