Johnson Controls’ Wichita operation designs, builds and distributes around one million pieces of residential heating and cooling equipment every year. Johnson Controls Wichita builds and assembles some of the biggest HVAC brands in the industry, including York, Luxaire, Coleman, Champion and Guardian.

The primary manufacturing campus sits on 63 acres with a total of 1.3 million square feet. It has also translated into large employment growth in Wichita, where its workforce is around 1,600 employees which is up nearly 22 percent year over year. The Wichita manufacturing facility is the largest non-aircraft manufacturing plant in Wichita.

What you will do

The Quality Engineer will serve as the Quality Management System planning and ISO lead. In this capacity they will help develop the details of the overall Quality plan that addresses process, policy, and procedure to ensure ISO standards are being met at the Wichita plant. This position is not eligible for Visa sponsorship.

How you will do it


  • Lead quality improvement initiatives to standardize processes, identify and control special and critical characteristics, and reduce process and product variation.

  • Actively lead internal audit activities to ensure compliance to standards, follow up with corrective action implementation.

  • Lead successful development and implementation of product quality plans including but not limited to PFMEAs, Production Control Plans, Quality Standards, Operator Work Instructions, and process quality data collection systems including but not limited to statistical process control (SPC), I-Own, FPY and RTPY metrics.

  • Perform process and product data analysis including but not limited to design of experiments (DOE), Gage R&R’s, and capability studies leading to measurable process and product improvements.

  • Investigate and ensure appropriate containment and corrective actions are taken and communicate status to all affected areas for field product reports and concerns.  

  • Actively participate as team member on new product development projects.

  • Actively participate as team member on CI, DFM, and other project teams. 

  • Actively lead and participate on CAR/8D teams as assigned.

  • Generate and issue quality-related reports as assigned. 

  • Develop new approaches to solve problems identified during quality assurance activities. 

  • Communicate significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provide recommended process improvements to management. 

  • Other duties as assigned.

What we look for

Required:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, Management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of product quality experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of ISO planning and implementation experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills with strong problem-solving capabilities.  

Preferred:


  • Previous completion of Problem Solving training (Kepner-Tregoe, 8D or Shainin). 

  • Working knowledge of APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) techniques. 

  • Six Sigma (DMAIC) and Lean Manufacturing certification.

  • ASQ CQE, CSQP certification desired.
