MATERIALS MANAGER

Responsible for the overall guidance and results associated with the procurement, inventory control, parts distribution to production and field service, and shipping and receiving of all products both into and out of our facility.  In addition you will manage vendor selection and performance monitoring.  Although this is a management function, a significant portion of the role will be as an individual contributor as a senior procurement person.

Principal duties:


  • Provide leadership through managerial competence and through garnering the respect of the materials team as well as cross-functional peers

  • Generate processes and procedures which will govern the way we do business with respect to procurement, shipping and receiving, materials movement and inventory control

  • Work with engineering in the proper release of Bills of Materials for procurement

  • Ensure adequate communication with the rest of the cross-functional team relative to delivery schedules of purchased materials so production efficiency can be optimized

  • Ensure all materials pricing in the MRP system is current and accurate

  • Drive excellent vendor performance with respect to delivery, quality and price

  • Drive excellent documentation practices relative to PO records, material movement transactions, shipping and receiving transactions, etc.

  • Provide components to production and field service in an organized and expeditious manner

  • Responsible for accurate inventory control and minimizing variances. Periodic cycle counting and year-end physical inventory as required

  • General management of group resources including hiring, terminating, reviews, etc.

  • Must be a solid ambassador of the company and project a professional image when interfacing with outside contacts such as customers and suppliers

Requirements/Capabilities:


  • ERP experience (we use Syteline)

  • Solid knowledge of purchasing, inventory control and shipping and receiving in a manufacturing environment

  • Understanding of structured materials processes that could help the company become ISO certified over time

  • Excellent decision making skills

  • Good interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work with little supervision

  • Strength of character to drive change

  • Capable of displaying positive leadership traits that result in a united team

Experience/Training:


  • 7+ years of experience in a related role in a similar industry and having had increasing levels of responsibility

  • 3+ years of management experience

Education:


  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
