Covia is looking for a dynamic Lab Tech who will have a positive impact on the Operations team at its Hephzibah, GA location. As a Lab Tech, you will ensure the safe and productive operation of the Plant lab. The Lab Technician will gather, and process samples and the results will be communicated to the operations team to ensure plant processes are controlled and all final products are within specifications.



The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:



  • Follow all Corporate and MSHA safety rules and regulations. Safety First!

  • Conduct lab assays as outlined in the lab procedure manuals.

  • Prepare detailed logs on all lab samples taken and data generated as directed by the QC Supervisor.

  • Assist in obtaining QC samples.

  • Assist in processing mine core samples.

  • Act as backup for core data entry.

  • Assist the QC/Environmental Supervisor in performing internal audits.

  • Perform minor maintenance on lab equipment.

  • Must be able to lift 100-pound samples, climb stairs, walk/work on uneven ground.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.



The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:



  • Literacy in English, both written and spoken required

  • High School diploma or equivalent required



  • Have basic knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC)

  • Solid understanding of mathematics

  • Basic understanding of the use of electronic scales and calculators

  • Detail-oriented and very accurate

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Good written and oral communication skills



  • Previous experience within mining operations given preference

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety with previous experience in identifying and managing risks preferred

  • Ability to operate computer programs required
