CHELCO seeks an Experienced Manager of Safety & Environmental Compliance

Join a dynamic and growing electric cooperative and lead our health and safety, loss control, and environmental compliance management efforts! We are looking for an experienced safety professional to accept the challenge of running all facets of our cooperative safety initiatives and program. The ideal candidate must be a critical and strategic thinker, driven, problem-solver, self-starter, who is collaborative and able to successfully create a continuously improving safety culture throughout Choctawhatchee Electric Cooperative (CHELCO).

The Position

The selected individual will:

·         Ensure cooperative’s compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules. This includes ensuring recordkeeping and reporting is completed for the cooperative.

·         Conduct/facilitate OSHA related inspections and audits, with the ability to respond to serious incidents in a calm and timely manner.

·         Develop risk management strategies based on predictive analytics, assessment of product, compliance, or operational risks.

·         Collaborate with human resources and training department to plan, organize, and direct the workers’ compensation program.

·         Study accident and illness data, applicable legislation, and job hazards to design appropriate education and performance improvement activities. 

·         Partner with HR and Training staff to review employee training requirements and to provide appropriate courses and seminars.

·         Conduct environmental audits to ensure adherence to environmental standards.

·         Direct environmental programs, such as air or water compliance, above ground or underground storage tanks, spill prevention or control, hazardous waste or materials management, solid waste recycling, medical waste management, and indoor air quality.

Position Requirements

The ideal candidate will have the following:

 

A Bachelor’s Degree is required; preferably in Industrial Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Safety and Health, Loss Control, Industrial Technology, or directly related degree preferred. At least eight years of experience in a progressively responsible position such as an industrial environment requiring knowledge of OSHA, US DOT/FDOT, Environmental, and Workers’ Compensation regulations. Must have five or more years in a management role and prior exposure to strategic planning, development of procedures, budgeting, and employee management. Utility industry experience and/or a Master’s degree a plus. 

Must also have previous knowledge of and experience in:

a.         Public Safety and Security — Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.

b.         Education and Training — Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.

c.         Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Must meet criteria to obtain access credentials for the U.S. government installations included in the Eglin AFB Utility Privatization contract.
