Position Overview

 

Oversee the dispatch operations for all internal and external trucking across all lines of business. This position will focus on delivery capacity and efficiency, DOT compliance and a wide variety of tasks that relate to our transportation operations.

 

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

 


  • Provide oversight of the Dolomite truck fleet, as well as hired trucks to establish the following:


    • Maximum utilization of our internal trucking assets with a focus on delivery efficiency and safety.

    • Use of telematics and transportation management system to identify and resolve trucking inefficiencies.

    • Ensure trucking demand is met daily.



  • Communicate frequently with internal stakeholders in all lines of business to identify trucking needs and allocate delivery capacity accordingly.

  • Maintain a relationship with the hired truck fleet and manage their performance.  Ensure that all Hired Haulers are in compliance.  

  • Facilitate the RFP and rate negotiations for hired hauler contracts.

  • Monitor haul costs on projects and aggregate hauls daily.

  • Monitor P&L reports monthly and assist in the budget process.

  • Work with the estimating and sales team to evaluate haul costs on large projects.

  • Strive to keep trucking operations at optimum production, low cost, and maintain a safe working environment.

  • Identify and resolve regulatory, safety, and truck operational problems in a timely and effective manner.

  • Adhere to all state and federal regulations, if applicable, as set forth by the US Department of Transportation (DOT) including but not limited to hours of service, truck weights, maintenance and auditing of DOT files.   Additionally, adhere to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), or any other regulatory agency.

  • Maintain driver files to ensure compliance with DOT regulations.

  • Engage in Dolomite’s safety culture through toolbox talks, safety observations, near miss reporting and risk assessments.

 

Requirements

 


  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence as necessary.  Ability to effectively present information in one on one and in small group situations.

  • Must have excellent organizational skills.

  • Must be able to interpret and analyze an extensive variety of instructions and data in mathematical, written, or oral form.

  • Must have excellent phone etiquette, speaking voice and professional appearance.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to use a computer to communicate and analyze data.  This includes but is not limited to the use of Outlook, MS Office programs, construction software and web-based programs.

  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required

  • Drug screen and background check required before being employed at The Dolomite Group

 

Education/Experience

 


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED). College Degree preferred, but not required.

  • Two to five years of related experience and/or training, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
