Alvarado Parkway Institute is seeking a qualified candidate to join our team of HR professionals as an HR Generalist

This is a regular, full-time position.  Office hours are generally from Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. 

This is a salaried/Exempt position and therefore, not eligible for overtime as per State and Federal law. 

Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Respond to all inbound and outbound contacts in a courteous, timely, and professional manner

  • Complete employee case investigation and tracking for COVID-19 and follow all required scripts, policies, and procedures when performing contact tracing

  • Respond to all inquiries consistent with confidentiality and privacy policies and refers callers to alternate sources when appropriate

  • Communicate and coordinate with other departments to resolve issues as applicable

  • Attend meetings and trainings and review all new training material to stay up-to-date on changes to program knowledge, systems, and processes

  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments

  • Assists the HR Recruiter in conducting interviews, and hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with the HR Recruiter and departmental hiring managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings

  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee recognition programs

  • Assist with the onboard process of new employees

  • Adhere to all attendance and work schedule requirements

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and company policies

  • Ensure the accuracy of all benefit enrollments in the HRIS (Paycom) to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information

  • Assist employees regarding benefit claim issues and plan changes

  • Distribute all benefit enrollment materials and determine eligibility

  • Assist the HR Manager in administering the Open Enrollment process

  • Assist the HR Manager in enrolling employees with benefit carriers and process life status changes

  • Respond to benefit inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefit enrollments, status changes, and other general inquiries

  • Respond to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes, and contribution amounts. Manage the annual catch-up contribution enrollment

  • Assist the HR Director in conducting labor relation investigations. 

  • Effectively interpret FMLA/ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities and process FMLA/LOA requests

  • Knowledge of safety practices, worker’s compensation and basic OSHA regulations

  • Provide necessary reports as needed

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Required Education & Experience:


  • 4 year degree in applicable field of study

  • At least 4 years of Human Resources experience.

Required Skills & Abilities:


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

  • Proactive and independent with the ability to take initiative.

  • Familiarity with laws, regulations, and best practices applicable to human resources.

  • Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Education & Experience: 


  • SHRM or HRCI certification preferred

  • Experience with Paycom software strongly preferred

  • Strong recruitment and benefits skills strongly preferred

Physical Requirements:


  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 15 pounds.
