JOB FUNCTION / SUMMARY:

Fixed Income Traders are responsible for trading taxable and tax-free fixed income securities for funds and client accounts in compliance with current policies, procedures and strategy. In addition, this position is responsible for the input of all trade details into the applicable trading and accounting systems. This position will provide research and analysis to the senior management that will be utilized in developing and maintaining Fixed Income strategies for the Firm.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Negotiate and execute trades with a variety of securities dealers based on a strong understanding of relative value.

  • Utilize a variety of software and tools to book, report and allocate trade executions to the appropriate account and custodian.

  • Act as liaison between operations and outside bond vendors by responding effectively to inquiries pertaining to trading and pricing.

  • Monitor and evaluate relationships with broker/dealers on approved list on a continual basis to insure the best coverage and execution possible in terms of fixed income offerings and research.

  • Work with the Director, Trust Investments and Senior Fixed Income Trader to implement trading strategies.

  • Research and analyze investment related data. Be able to interpret and communicate market forces impacting bond performance and portfolio benchmarks to portfolio managers.

  • Compile portfolio analyses and other "one off" reports for Portfolio Managers and clients on an "as needed" basis.

  • Serve an integral role in the training and development of backup fixed income traders.

  • Organize meetings and record meeting minutes for investment team.

  • Participate in conference calls, seminars, and presentations in effort to expand the trader's knowledge base, understanding of current market dynamics and to improve day-to-day job function.

  • Assure regulatory compliance with applicable bank and governmental trading requirements.

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE:


  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Accounting or other related field required

  • 2 years relevant experience and/or internships preferred.

  • CFA candidate designation is preferred. The candidate is expected to earn the designation within 5 years of being employed if not earned at the time of employment

  • Ability to learn or knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint

  • Ability to learn or knowledge of Bloomberg trading and information systems

ESSENTIAL MENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Ability to travel if required to perform the essential job functions

  • Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines

  • Ability to operate related equipment to perform the essential job functions

  • Ability to read and interpret a document if required to perform the essential job functions

  • Ability to lift/move/carry approximately 10 pounds if required to perform the essential job functions. If the employee is unable to lift/move/carry this weight and can be accommodated without causing the department/division an "undue hardship" then the employee must be accommodated; hence omitting lifting/moving/carrying as a physical requirement.
