Job Description:

Ultra Labs is the advanced concepts group at Ultra Electronics focused on (1) new and emerging technologies, and (2) collaborating with teams from across Ultra, wider industry and academia to anticipate our customer's long-term needs and develop innovative multi-mission solutions.

We are looking for a Technical Writer to produce compelling, persuasive, and creative content to support advanced concept development across the group. We are looking for candidates who are self-driven, efficient with deadlines, and able to work effectively with engineers to help develop business opportunities and drive innovation. The successful candidate will partner and work closely with senior leaders to track opportunities, create proposals, presentations, and marketing materials.

The main job duties involve researching, writing, illustrating, and organizing ideas for proposals, technical documentation, sales, and marketing. The individual will analyze BAA/SSN/RFI/RFP/RFQ opportunities to determine best proposal framework/strategy, identify required information content, conduct interviews with technical subject matter experts across the group, attend meetings, gather existing relevant source content, identify content gaps, generate required content, and produce consistent, integrated, complete documents with one-voice for customer review.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Apply extensive knowledge of industry best practices to ensure proposals beat competition and win


• Understand the audience and craft simple language to drive accurate understanding of complex ideas


• Determine optimal proposal content strategy by identifying and clarifying opportunities and needs, studying BAA, SSN, RFI, RFQ, RFPs, and attending strategy meetings


• Write clear, compliant text to meet SSN, RFQ, RFP, or RFI requirements


• Coordinate requirements with contributors, and provide proposal status information in review meetings; translate solutions into effective business proposals


• Communicate with one-voice; rewrite sections to change unclear or non-compliant text into readable and grammatically correct English


• Maintain technical content library for Ultra Labs and Group


• Ensure stakeholders clearly understand substance of documentation, and approve of technical and business positioning


• Produce content to address and navigate different proposal formats: e.g. Heilmeier Catechism (https://www.darpa.mil/work-with-us/heilmeier-catechism) or Shipley


• Execute through multi-tasking and prioritization to deliver high quality final products on schedule to meet deadlines; know when to collaborate and when to work independently


• Understand company offerings, solutions, products, experience, and capabilities


• Employ interpersonal, communication, and team-building skills in collaboration with diverse groups

Qualifications we Require

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field


• At least 7 years of applied experience writing technology-focused Federal Government proposals using Microsoft Office


• At least 5 years of experience with technical-focused contracting with US DOD


• At least 2 years of experience using the Shipley Proposal Method

• At least 3 years of experience planning, scheduling, coordinating, and managing technical proposal content generation across distributed diverse teams and stakeholders


• Ability to obtain a US Government Security Clearance. Clearances are granted to US Citizens.

Qualifications we Desire

• Proven verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills - must provide samples of excellent technical writing skills


• Experience in all phases of government proposal development and production, and all response volumes


• Excellent verbal, written, and illustrated communication skills


• Mastery of English grammar, mechanics, and usage


• Expert/Advanced computer skills (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Visio, Acrobat, etc.) or other typesetting tools


• Experience with graphical illustration
