Johns Manville is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Physical Distribution Manager.
This position reports to the Plant Manager of the Rockdale facility and will be assigned to manage the supply chain process for effective execution of the physical and logistical processes. This position is responsible for managing one hourly report. Ideally, we are looking for a candidate with upward mobility to eventually join our corporate supply chain team or advance throughout the operations management realm.
The Rockdale, Illinois plant manufactures perlite roof insulation board, which is a rigid insulation for built-up commercial roofs. They also cut TAPERED, EDGE and CANT accessory products for providing slope for positive drainage of flat commercial roofs. The plant has 28 hourly associates and 6 salaried associates.
We are currently seeking local candidates as this position does not offer a relocation package.
Your Day-to- Day:
Work with Rockdale team to manage and execute an effective physical distribution process to include:
Provide a safe working environment for JM employees, contractors and visitors
Ensure labor availability to meet inbound/outbound volume, while minimizing overtime
Promote accurate loading, investigate order errors, take corrective action as needed
Monitor product availability on manufactured and transferred goods to meet demand
Develop production schedules to improve operating efficiencies and minimize disruptions
Create purchase orders for trade goods as needed to avoid stock-outs
Schedule daily cycle counts, enter findings and work with plant controller to clear discrepancies
Work with warehouse supervisor on item discrepancies to determine root cause of variance between actual inventory and SAP, and recommend remedial actions to resolve discrepancies
Organize, lead and perform annual physical inventory with plant team members
Manage batched items to avoid shelf-life expiration issues
Monitor lead time commitments and changes, working with customer service & SIOP as needed
Maintain proper labeling and identification forms for private label customers
Minimize waste through efficient inventory placement and product flow, utilizing data analysis and shipping team involvement
Serve as a liaison with sister plants for transferring product into and out of Rockdale plant
Ensure all training and certification programs for fork truck operators is up to date
What You Bring to The Team:
BS in related field (business, logistics management, preference given to industrial engineering)
Five years of related experience with a focus on warehouse management and supervision
Must have high level organizational and time management skills, with the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks
Must have good critical process thinking skills
Proven track record in leading high-performance teams and getting results
Demonstrated ability to apply safety principles for mobile equipment utilization, truck loading etc.
Proficient computer skills including SAP, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
Superior verbal and written communication skills
