We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work in our Defense R&D and Manufacturing group in East Granby, Connecticut. This role centers on the design of fiber laser amplifiers and includes significant levels of communication with supply chain, outside mechanical design and analysis contractors, fabrication vendors and the R&D team.

Responsibilities:

• Mechanical design of fiber lasers using Solidworks


• Communicate progress to management and internal stake holders


• Interaction with vendors of fabricated parts


• Guidance of external design and analysis vendors


• Structured use of PDM and BOM systems


• Promote investigation and application of new technologies and industry trends to product design


• Lead DFM efforts to decrease errors and assembly time of products


• Participate in new product development programs

Education and Work Experience:

Minimum Qualifications:

• B.S. in an engineering degree program (Mechanical preferred) plus 2 years of work experience


• Previous experience in product design with a solids package, preferably Solidworks


• Hands on experience in assembly of technical devices


• US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience with lasers or laser design


• Experience in creating / using standard practices and macros in Solidworks


• Knowledge of machining and fabrication practices


• Strong communication and collaboration skills - comfortable working across a variety of functions and levels
