Job Description:

The Ohio Department of Administrative Services is seeking an experienced Facilities Maintenance Specialist to provide preventative maintenance, repair & restoration of the Governor’s Residence.  Duties include:
 

• 
  Operates, monitors & maintains solar power system
  
  


• 
  Conducts interior & exterior restoration & preservation of historical elements of residence
  
  


• 
  Installs & repairs sinks, toilets, faucets, pipes, drains, steam valves, steam traps & water lines
  
  


• 
  Performs installation & repair of electrical equipment (e.g., lighting fixtures, light ballasts, bulbs, switches, fuses)
  
  


• 
  Performs minor repairs & routine preventative maintenance to boiler, HVAC & other mechanical equipment (e.g., change fluids, filters & lubricates equipment)
  
  


• 
  Operates, resets & monitors direct digital automation controls for boiler, HVAC & mechanical equipment systems
  
  


• 
  Interacts with various parties (e.g., First Family, guests, residence staff, volunteer gardeners)
  
  


• 
  Responds to systems emergency situations 24 hrs/day, 7 days/week which may require overtime or call back.
  
  

 
Performs rough & finished carpentry work to construct, repair & install wood products (e.g., cabinets, counter tops, doors, shelves):
 

• 
  Repairs roofs, ceiling & floors
  
  


• 
  Repairs & installs walls, gutters, steps, door framing, casings, locks, keys & windows
  
  


• 
  Replaces screen & window glass
  
  


• 
  Installs door closures
  
  


• 
  Reads blueprints.
  
  

 
Maintains landscape/hardscape & performs repair of grounds equipment: 
 

• 
  Inspects trees & plants for diseases & insects
  
  


• 
  Applies pesticides & fertilizers as needed
  
  


• 
  Operations & repairs irrigation system
  
  


• 
  Cuts grass, removes snow & ice from sidewalks & driveways
  
  


• 
  Repairs grounds-keeping equipment (e.g., lawn mower, tractor mower, blower).
  
  

 
Performs support duties: 

• 
  Sets up tables & chairs for meeting & special events
  
  


• 
  Moves furniture, desks, chairs, tables, bookcases, credenzas; oils & cleans equipment
  
  


• 
  Sharpens tools
  
  


• 
  Paints walls, miscellaneous piping & warehouse fencing
  
  


• 
  Maintains supply inventory
  
  


• 
  Mops, waxes, sweeps & buffs floors
  
  


• 
  Dusts, washes & cleans furniture, walls & windows.
  
  

Minimum Qualifications Required:
Successful completion of post-secondary training in facilities maintenance technology, industrial trades technology or comparable training program; AND 3 yrs. exp. in construction/building maintenance that included carpentry, electrical, plumbing & HVAC.
Note: If position will be assigned to operate motorized equipment of size & type regulated by Sections 4506.1, 4506.03 & 4506.12 of Ohio Revised Code, applicant must also have valid commercial driver license; if required to operate state vehicle must have valid driver license.
