Research Division Human Resources

The Research Division, headed by theVice President for Research and Innovation, enables and advances the university's research priorities as well as research activities of Cornell colleges, schools, and research centers, institutes, and laboratories. The Research Division Human Resources team promotes excellence by delivering innovative HR solutions and strategies to support the advancement of research at Cornell.

We have an immediate opening for a Human Resources Assistant.

What you will do:

As a member of the Research Division's Human Resource team, the HR Assistant will provide a full range of support including transactional, administrative, and consultative to all units within the Research Division. This position will serve as the first point of contact for business transactions, leave administration, payroll processing, data management and reporting. Specific duties include: process Workday transactions, assist with recruiting process, administer appointment process for new hires, including staff, students and academics, manage employee leaves, serve as the payroll representative, respond to general payroll, policy, & benefit questions, maintain electronic files, and track and follow-up on processes such as 90-Day probationary period, onboarding and exiting processes, performance reviews, etc. Provide consistent administration of human resource policies, ensuring compliance with federal, state and local laws. May represent the Research Division in areas of system testing, committee work and other various activities where appropriate. Maintain focus on continuous process improvement and customer service to meet the goals and objectives of the division.

What you will need:

Associate degree with 2-4 years of administrative, human resources, or related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to organize and track a high volume of information in a professional and timely manner. Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Must have high level of interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with varied audiences at all levels of the organization, as well as, handle sensitive and confidential situations. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy. Some analytical ability is required in order to gather and summarize data for reports, find solutions to various administrative problems, and prioritize work. Work requires continual attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines. Demonstrated ability to work independently, use sound judgement in decision making and contribute to the development of a highly successful, team-oriented work environment. Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment, adapt to changing priorities, and effectively manage multiple competing deadlines.

Preferred, but not required:

Previous experience with Workday and knowledge of NYS and Federal HR laws and regulations a plus.
