The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As a Systems Control Technician, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

• Performing routine preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment such as, but not limited to: AC/DC drives and motors, programmable logic controllers, process controllers, stepper & servo motors and controllers, fire protection equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic devices, and plant support equipment.


• Reviewing, interpreting, and editing blueprints, electrical schematics, sketches, vendor drawings and manuals in the performance of this job. 


• Utilizing Plant Engineering Maintenance Management software to document maintenance activities such as time charged, parts used, conditions found, and repairs completed, to build a maintenance record for future troubleshooting.


• Collaborating with engineering and production personnel during the troubleshooting, modification, fabrication and repair of plant equipment, utilities, and processes.  Providing technical recommendations regarding improvement and optimization of plant equipment, utilities, and processes


• Identifying and Implementing improvement ideas to enhance plant operations.

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications:

• Possess a High School Diploma or GED (completed and verified prior to start)


• Minimum of 1 year of experience in maintaining process equipment in mechanical, electrical, and electronic controls areas

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

• A certification or degree in a mechanical, electrical, or electronic controls skills trade focus


• 5 years’ experience in servicing and maintaining motors and gear boxes, web lines, conveyors, belt driven equipment, motor starters and relays, electronic drives including VFDs, PLC diagnosis and programming

This position will require

• Weekend work as needed


• Working overtime as needed


• Working on holidays as needed


• Short notice shift coverage as needed


• Working rotating shifts for training


• Supply of hand tools and meters (larger tools provided)


• Frequent physical demands including working at heights in hot ovens and lifting, up to 50 pounds

Travel: May include up to 5% domestic

Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

Qualified applicants will be required to take and pass 3M employment testing as a part of the selection process.
