Job Summary

This person will tackle our organization's toughest technical problems and will drive excellence at all levels, working with senior management to support the execution of the organization's vision.

The DevOps Manager is a technical management role requiring a candidate with proven experience leading DevOps effort in the delivery of enterprise software products. We're looking for someone with strong communication skills who is experienced at leading software development teams. We follow agile methodologies and look to be innovative, productive, and collaborative.

You can bring your DevOps best practices and help take our infrastructure to the next level. You are responsible for crafting and developing with groundbreaking technologies that drive our sophisticated CI/CD process. You will partner with internal teams on design, build and manage a globally accessible infrastructure platform while keeping a watchful eye on capacity, performance, and service availability.

Essential Functions - What You Will Do


  • Hire, mentor and grow a global team of passionate engineers who work well across the company and are subject matter experts in AWS

  • Own the core infrastructure in AWS that supports the entire division and all division applications.

  • Own end-to-end availability and performance of critical services and build automation to reduce operational overhead including the continuous improvement of processes that enable quick resolution of any operational issues that arise.

  • Partner with Product Management and User's to drive prioritization and deliver impact

  • Work with finance on monthly cost breakdown and estimates. Understanding AWS costing models and methods to control costs

  • Engage with AWS for support and connections to their product teams (roadmaps, SME guidance, etc.)

  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to direct reports.

  • Conduct annual performance reviews and other HR activities for each direct report.

  • Participate in the interview process for prospective new team members

  • Work with an offshore DevOps team with dotted-line reporting to you as they support our applications after hours.

  • Constantly update technical knowledge and skills and mentor others on your team to increase the skill level of the department.

Knowledge and Skills/Technology Used


  • Excellent proficiency in cloud environments like AWS, with preferably 2 or more years of experience with the suite of AWS services leveraged when providing automated DevSecOps solutions, including CloudFormation, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, EC2, IAM, Lambda, DynamoDB, Route 53, S3, RDS, SES, or VPC

  • Excellent technical knowledge of scripting languages (shell, python)

  • Experience with developing Terraform scripts (or Cloud Formation) and custom scripting to build infrastructure as code (IaC)

  • Experience with building and configuration CI / CD pipelines with build tools such as Jenkins or similar technologies.

  • Experience with machine image management, specifically building Amazon Machine Images (AMI) using Packer and Chef or Ansible.

  • Experience and familiarity with both Windows and Linux operating systems.

  • Solid understanding of network fundamentals (routing, subnets, firewalls, load balancers).

  • Familiarity with Continuous Delivery practices.

  • Hands-on experience with a Distributed Version Control System such as Git

  • Good general familiarity with current theory and best practices in the DevOps community.

  • Knowledge of container technologies such as: Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift

  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases. (SQL Server, Postgres)

  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Splunk, AppDynamics, SignalFX, etc.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Evidence of curiosity, personal growth, and continuous self-improvement over career.

  • Full understanding of software development lifecycle best practices

  • Excellent judgment, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills

Typical Education

  • Normally requires Bachelor Degree or equivalent work experience

Typical Range of Experience


  • 5+ years of technical experience as a senior contributor working within a Development, DevOps or SRE team.

  • 3 to 5 years as an Engineering Lead or Manager

License or Certification

  • AWS Solution Architect or DevOps Engineer certification is preferred.
