Job Description:

Position Overview


This position will provide base and configuration design and release engineering support to Proterra’s Interior Manager and other site leadership team members. You will be responsible for providing a full range of engineering solutions to client groups at the site and be in an environment where you can have a greater impact.


About the Role – You will:



  • Designs engineering solutions for interior system parts, tooling and processes based on established engineering and quality principles and in accordance with development technology practices and guidelines.

  • Collaborate and communicate with internal and external cross-functional teams on engineering design and development.

  • Use CAD to create parts, assemblies, and drawings.

  • Works with CAE resources to ensure high performance and efficiency of design

  • Create and release ECOs, according to established project milestones and targets.

  • Support design, sourcing, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing activities.

  • Maintain BOMs and manage data releases in accordance with project milestones and targets.

  • Participate as a member of project team, comprised of other internal engineers and external development partners, to develop reliable, cost effective, and high-quality solutions

  • Coordinate meetings, lead design reviews, and track and resolve issues.

  • Oversee design, development, and analysis of 3D CAD models and product assemblies, while ensuring coordination with interconnected vehicle systems.

  • Create robust DFMEAs.

  • Write requirements, performance specifications, and DVP&Rs.


  • Other duties as assigned by management.

  • You will report to the Director of Project/Program (Design) and collaborate with other Engineering team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and other manufacturing facility in Los Angeles, CA.  

 


About You:



  • A seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization; resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Knowledge of design of basic mechanical parts and systems.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively communicate design proposals and negotiate options.

  • Ability to use 3D CAD software as an engineering design tool.

  • Ability to work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.

  • Ability to demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

  • Ability to network with senior personnel in own area of expertise.

  • Ability to digest general instructions on routine work and new projects / assignments.

  • Ability to build productive internal/external working relationships.


  • Excellent English communication skills

 


Your Experience Includes:



  • B.S. or higher in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.


  • 2-5 years of experience related to manufacturing and/or product development


  • Knowledge of design, development, test, manufacturing and assembly operations (DFM)


  • Knowledge of interior components (transit or automotive).

  • Knowledge of GD&T principles

  • Ability to self-direct and adapt quickly to changes.

  • Proficiency with standard 3D CAD software, preferably CATIA V6
