GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Clinical Quality Improvement (CQI) Specialist is responsible for facilitating a variety of teams through the quality improvement planning, measurement, and improvement cycles. The CQI Specialist facilitates assigned teams, consistent with the organization's Strategic Plan, Quality and Patient Safety Plan and designated operational and clinical priorities for care.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
2. *Promotes knowledge of basic quality principles and methods to all participants in quality improvement efforts.
3. *Facilitates teams/groups with the process of quality improvement by encouraging participation, suggesting methods, and coordinating meeting details.
4. *Contributes to the design of quality improvement activities by conducting thorough literature searches, reporting relevant information for review and analysis, working collaboratively to identify opportunities, developing charters and making recommendations for improvement.
5. *Supports the measurement of improvement activities by defining the parameters for the collection of reliable and valid data, determining sampling and collection strategies, abstracting data from hospital databases and directing the analysis of data.
6. *Assesses the impact of quality improvement initiatives by supporting improvement activities that meet the respective project aims, communicating with key hospital leaders regarding proposed changes, determining measures that assess the level of improvement, maintaining written records of improvement activities, and using external comparisons and benchmarks to establish organizational standards for improvement.
7. *Measures improvements by determining that improvement activities have improved the process, assuring that improvement activities are monitored over time, determining methods to communicate improvements to affected staff, and planning for redesign of key systems or system components.
8. *Facilitates a thorough and credible root cause analysis, including the development of a corrective action plan for sentinel events.
9. *Prepares a complete Root Cause Analysis team report for communication to Senior Management within 45 days of the occurrence being identified, as described in the Sentinel Event Procedure.
10. *Facilitates a thorough proactive risk assessment including the development of an improvement plan.
11. *Prepares and presents reports of quality improvement activities to the Quality Council and other identified groups.
12. *Attends medical staff and hospital committee meetings as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduate from an accredited clinical or technical program in Allied Health required. Nebraska licensure as a Registered Nurse with Bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum of three (3) years related clinical experience required. Quality improvement experience preferred.
