We are seeking a full-time IoT (Internet of Things) Software Engineer 2 at our site in Cary, NC. Seeking someone who is passionate about enabling wireless networking technology in our various products including dashcams, fishfinders, off-roading, racing, trucking and recreation devices. The wireless connectivity delivers advanced features like remote device monitoring, live video streaming, Group Ride setup, automated cloud storage, speech recognition... and more! In this role, you will be responsible for developing moderately complex software and creating and executing designs for small sets of new functionalities for Garmin products and/or applications.
Essential Functions
Creates and executes designs for small sets of new functionalities as part of a software project using embedded C on Embedded Linux or Android operating systems
Analyze, debug and resolve Wi-Fi and LTE performance and interoperatbility issues using wireless protocol analyzers
May perform as a technical leader or Lead Software Engineer for derivative software project
Collaborates and adds value through participation in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions
Deliver features up and down the stack - from integrating device drivers to writing code to manage Wi-Fi or LTE interfacces
Performs technical root cause analysis and outlines corrective action for given problems
Contributes to technical research on new technologies
Estimates level of effort, evaluates new options of similar technology, offers suggestions to improve processes, and provides feedback on some electrical design aspects
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant work experience (beyond internships) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Must demonstrate proficiency and possess experience necessary to develop moderately complex software in embedded C on Linux-based systems
Proficient knowledge, utilization and mastery of relevant software engineering tools (configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators and logic analyzers)
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Desired Qualifications
Working knowledge of Wi-Fi or LTE communication protocols
Programming experienve in Java, Kotlin or Python
Development experience with Android AOSP (Open Source Project)
