Job Description:

Under administrative direction, help to develop, implement, and evaluate strategies for media, advertising, video, social media and promotions for the Ohio Expo Center and Ohio State Fair. Review, update, and implement existing plans and strategies, such as the Crisis Communications Plan. Proactively generate new ideas for stories, media outreach, social media content, promotional opportunities, partnerships, and support for the annual Ohio State Fair and for the Ohio Expo Center facility on a year-round basis. Perform quantitative and qualitative review of all public relations and marketing programs, including compilation and analysis of coverage reports, survey results, concert and admission ticket sales data, demographics and other analytics.

Develop, prepare, type, edit, perform layout work and distribute written and visual communication elements (e.g., news releases, publications, articles, group sales materials, newsletters, speeches, presentations, email blasts, talking points, backgrounders, social media posts, podcast episodes, internal communications, brochures, pamphlets, fliers, programs, videos and associated scripts, etc.). Utilize desktop publishing or graphic design software programs to create images or aforementioned written and visual communication elements. Strategically schedule and distribute such content on a timely basis throughout the year. Write, upload, and maintain content and images for agency websites.

Respond to public and media inquiries, such as public records requests, media questions, media interview requests, social media inquiries, educational material requests, informational material requests, donation requests, etc. Coordinate the activities of the media, including radio and television, for non-fair activities and during the Ohio State Fair. Pitch stories, set up interviews, coordinate live broadcasts and oversee interns assisting with such efforts both prior to and during the Ohio State Fair.

Perform administrative tasks, such as analyzing data; reviewing personal services contracts; issuing requests for proposal or quotation; creating and issuing correspondence, memos and set-up forms; etc. Coordinates arrangements with media, General Manager, Assistant General Managers, Commission members, or Junior Fair Board for agency representation at meetings, conferences, and conventions. Manage agency community initiatives and programs, including the coordination of the donation of Ohio State Fair tickets to nonprofit organizations and causes throughout the state, and work on agency-wide initiatives as needed (e.g., Combined Charitable Campaign, Operation Feed, etc.). Plan, organize and staff promotional events prior to and during the Ohio State Fair.

Monitor fiscal records of department’s budget, including the review and verification of incoming invoices.

Completion of undergraduate core program in journalism or communication; 12 mos. exp. in public multi-media techniques & relations in field of journalism or communication; valid driver's license. -Or 36 mos. exp. in field of journalism or communication dealing in public multi-media techniques & relations, public speaking, news writing, reporting & editing or technical report translation & communication dealing in public meetings; valid driver's license. -Or 12 mos. exp. as Public Information Officer 1, 64421; valid driver's license. -Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
