Position Summary

Review and analyze the Tax Matrix, Assist in audit and preparation of returns and assist the Indirect Tax Manager with issues as a result of tax audits, perform daily tax research and generate correspondence for tax initiatives and issues. Ideal candidate must have excellent project management and organization skills.

Key Responsibilities

Daily:

• 
  Assist in Sales Tax Audit including:
  
  

• 
  Maintaining company-wide audit schedule.
  
  
• 
  Responding to auditor requests for information.
  
  
• 
  Sustaining positive auditor/taxpayer relationship for the duration of the audits.
  
  
• 
  Coordinate data gathering from ERP systems, tax software and other accounting systems (Fixed Assets SW, lease SW, etc.)
  
  
• 
  Research state specific statutes for correct taxability of retail sales tax and valid exemptions for division use purchases during related audit period.
  
  
• 
  Analysis of information received for completeness and general comparison of returns filed within audit period.
  
  
• 
  Work with other Dentsply departments to obtain information pertinent to the audit (i.e. Fixed Assets, IT, A/P, etc.)
  
  
• 
  Prepare notifications to divisions accounting management and corporate tax for any reserves or audit issues of materiality.
  
  
• 
  Help to prepare any necessary communications of audit positions, audit results and/or amounts due.
  
  
• 
  Ensure timely payment of any audit assessments to reduce penalties/interest.
  
  
• 
  Work with the Indirect Tax Manager on remediation of sales tax issues in response to specific audit results.
  
  
• 
  Preparing budgeted and financial impact of audit findings periodically throughout audit review by doing internal analysis of items discovered by auditor.
  
  

• 
  Assist in research to periodically create, maintain and update sales/use tax matrices and keep record of changes and research used to alter matrices as necessary.
  
  
• 
  Review the Tax Matrix and mapping in Vertex on Demand
  
  
• 
  Assist the Indirect Tax Manager in sales tax research and verification of new state taxing jurisdictions.
  
  
• 
  Review vendor requests for sales tax exemption certificates and providing as needed.
  
  
• 
  Complete other assignments and duties as assigned by the Indirect Tax Manager. This can be extra reconciliations, assistance or training to other Dentsply Sirona areas, and other special duties and projects as assigned.
  
  
• 
  Provide advice and assistance to Indirect Tax Accountants as needed.
  
  
• 
  Notify the Indirect Tax Manager of any process or procedure issues that are contrary to Dentsply Sirona or GBS objectives.
  
  

Monthly:

• 
  Review sales/use tax returns for accuracy and completeness.
  
  
• 
  Review payment requests for accuracy and submit to the Indirect Tax Manager for approval.
  
  
• 
  Prepare exchange rate and other journal entries as needed.
  
  
• 
  Review journal entries prepared by the Indirect Tax Accountants
  
  
• 
  Assist with any account reconciliation issues as they are discovered.
  
  
• 
  Support manager with ongoing projects and initiatives needed for sales tax department compliance, audits, tax planning and research.
  
  
• 
  When necessary, provide backup to sales tax systems and compliance matters.
  
  

Key Skills & Experience

• Preference for those who have attended Sales and Use Tax schools through professional organizations specializing in Sales/Use Tax (IPT, COST, etc.)
• Bachelor's Degree in accounting or related discipline from 4 year college or university
• Minimum of 3 - 5 years related experience.
• Knowledge of GAAP and tax laws as related to the activities of this position.
