Third Shift Maintenance Mechanic at The J.M. Smucker Company in Topeka, Kansas

Job Description:

Maintain and repair all plant equipment and facilities in a way that achieves customer satisfaction. All work must be performed in a safe, timely and cost effective manner.

Third shift position (11:30 PM to 8:00 AM) Sunday - Thursday with some Saturday work required

Starting pay: $29.81

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform maintenance activities on a shift basis to ensure optimum utilization of materials and manpower to maximize production safety, quality and efficiency


• Review work orders to ensure materials are available and develop manpower and scheduling estimates. Initiate work orders when work cannot be performed immediately


• Communicate and work with operators, other mechanics, senior mechanics and supervisors on maintenance problems and potential problems


• Actively participate in team and plant meetings and activities


• Follow all safety, housekeeping and regulatory agency requirements


• Perform preventative maintenance and inspection functions and take the initiative to ensure these programs are modified and updated as needed


• Participate in training to improve and maintain technical skills, teamwork, creativity and communication skills


• All other duties as assigned

Essential Skills and Knowledge

• Strong mechanical aptitude combined with good diagnostic skills


• Excellent technical skills and knowledge of all crafts, including mechanical, electrical and technical


• Good problem solving, troubleshooting and creativity skills are required


• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment


• Demonstrated ability to work in a team oriented environment


• Basic computer skills


• Flexibility and willingness to rotate positions within Maintenance Department


• Knowledge of proper lifting techniques. Ability to lift a minimum of sixty pounds
