Product Development Engineering Manager to lead engineering team (5-10) that delivers chiller development initiatives. This leader is expected to bring deep history of product design processes and engineering fundamentals. The skill and knowledge must have been applied to a manufactured product that matches the complexity of commercial HVAC equipment. Prior history as a change agent that delivers product designs in a matrix organization is essential.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's in Engineering (advanced degrees in engineering or business a plus)
10+ years' experience with "configure to order" product development, similar in physical size, volume, and technical complexity to water and air cooled chillers
3+ years leading a team of product engineers
Effective at building/maintaining effective team culture
Ability to mentor and provide career coaching to direct reports
Process creation, implementation, and application history for:
Experience in strategic product positioning and managing configuration of complex system options, that meet market competitive requirements, regulatory requirements and exceed customer expectations
Awareness of manufacturing processes to deliver product to cost
Technical skills in refrigerant process modeling and mechanical-electrical system selection & sizing
Success in product compliance to industrial standards & regulations (preferred experience in history with AHRI, ASHREA, Low GWP refrigerant and UL 60335-2)
*Experience establishing process discipline that has leveraged engineering subject matter experts across disciplines and sites
Experience managing product development for a similar range of scope and impact on the business
Prior success in a matrix organization
Excellent communication skills; written, verbal, presentation
Desired PC skills: Microsoft Office applications, Cycle simulations, CAD, FEA, CFD, & other analytic skills
Willing to travel as required domestically and internationally 10-15% (post Covid)
Responsibilities:
Build the premier industry team of chiller engineers to lead relevant technology (NTI) and product (NPI) development initiatives to achieve product goals by: talent selection/acquisition/development, assignment of accountabilities and objectives, performance evaluation/management, and institution and application of engineering excellence principles and metrics.
Lead a team in development of assigned water and air cooled chiller systems. Meet product specifications and program timelines. Relevant knowledge/skills includes: vapor compression refrigeration systems (including heat pumps); compressors (scroll, screw, centrifugal); fans; low & medium voltage applications; electrical power device sizing & selection, electric motors; variable speed technologies; unit sequence of operation, algorithms, & control devices; International Building Code (IBC) seismic & wind certifications; safety agency compliance (UL-1995 and UL-60335-2).
Resource planning of technical projects for both tactical demands of existing projects and strategic needs of product portfolio expansion.
Key technical leader in portfolio management and delivery of technical definition associated with a manufactured product that generates +$200MM in revenue, with growth of +10% year-on-year.
Broad understanding of business principles, including: staff supervision and performance management, cost center management, organizational functional roles and accountabilities, product development plans and schedules, application of engineering excellence methods to achieve product development agendas, judgment of balance among product development variables (cost, uncertainty, complexity, performance, manufacturability, & reliability) required for effective team direction, and ability to collaborate across functional areas and with project partners.
Motivate development or adoption of innovative technologies, product features, or processes.
Ensure effective utilization and direction for indirect Team members: CAD Designers, Configurator developers, Lab Technicians, & Engineers as assigned to Projects.
Provide project technical leadership by coordinating cross functional Teams through the defined steps of the Daikin Applied New Technology Introduction and New Product Introduction development processes.
Oversee effective application of engineering excellence processes and techniques (DFMEA, PFMEA, DOE and DVP&R, FEA, DFM/A, Technical Design Reviews, Risk Assessment, Program Gantt charts, SCRUM, etc.) to ensure timely Project delivery and meet Product functional, cost, and quality objectives.
