Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Creative Services within Global Marketing, the Senior Manager is responsible for ensuring high-quality creative output and strong conceptual ideas through exceptional creative direction and execution. She/he will supervise the copywriters and graphic designers to ensure that projects are delivered on-brand, on-strategy, and on-time. This role will provide creative strategy, expertise, and oversight to support building powerful, authentic brands through the creation of effective, compelling marketing materials. There will be a strong focus on continuously improving the in-house creative team performance, expanding capabilities, and optimizing efficiencies while evolving the vision of the organization in order to meet Global Marketing objectives. This full-time design position is based in the San Diego office.

Creative Services is responsible for the visual and verbal representation of the Dexcom brand across a variety of audiences (consumers/patients, healthcare providers, employees, etc.) through print, digital, video, photography, etc. from ideation to execution. They work with other members Global Marketing team as well as the Creative Services team, including writers, designers, brand managers, operations, and the event team. As time and resources permit, this role may support other departments and outsource to agencies as needed to develop tactics and resources to support teams outside of Global Marketing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Provide day-to-day design leadership that builds a shared understanding of the holistic user-centric intersection of brand, design, content, business, and creative strategy.

  • Responsible for assisting with project intake, including working with agency partners, to ensure all necessary information is provided to effectively assign and execute the work.

  • Evaluate the creative operations of the team to ensure optimized workflows, efficiencies, and implement new tools or process as appropriate.

  • Ability to communicate complex information and creative strategies clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization.

  • Expert on developing brand identity, typography, color, and iconography; and have demonstrated capability on delivering all types of content.

  • Supervise the execution of complex creative deliverables for advertising, collateral, marketing promotions, interactive and other print and digital communication tactics as requested under direction of Brand and Creative Services management.

  • Lead or support creative ideation, concepting, and production in the development and implementation of tactics and tools targeted for a defined audience and product brand.

  • Build an impactful brand presence at tradeshows in collaboration with the event teams.

  • Proven ability to create and direct high-quality creative campaigns.

  • Play an ongoing role in the development of our brand voice and advocate for consistent application of design standards across experiences and platforms.

  • Identify process improvement opportunities and work within team or with other teams to create or improve and implement existing processes.

Required Qualifications:


  • Experience concepting and presenting big ideas that are align with creative briefing.

  • International experience or experience working with global teams.

  • Proficient in digital, social, and print advertising formats and/or creation of in app content.

  • Experience managing a high volume of creative and campaign types simultaneously.

  • Ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively within the team and cross functionally.

  • Portfolio demonstrating technical expertise, creative flair, conceptual ability, versatility and imagination, and solid core design and copywriting skills (must provide URL for online portfolio).

  • Understanding of design applications in digital channels, including social and email marketing.

  • Experience with concepting experiential layouts and executing tradeshow booth and digital exhibiting graphics.

  • Must be able to quickly acclimate to change in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience managing outside creative agencies.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 5 years managing creative staff that includes both designers and writers.

  • Experience leading creative campaign development in a medical device or healthcare space.

  • Familiarity with ad personalization using dynamic content and creative optimization (DCO).

  • Experience working within a design system.

  • Experience using a project and resource management system to track projects and tasks.

  • Experience with video and/or motion graphics is also a plus.

Travel Required:

  • Up to 25%

Functional Description:

Manages the company's graphic services. Oversees the preparation of technical illustrations, design procedures, graphics, photography, and other printing. Manages the work of graphic illustrators and the use of outside graphic services. Reviews bids, arranges purchase orders, and evaluates the quality of vendor service. Works with marketing to implement new design and projects. Ensures accurate representation of company logo and brand name. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

  • Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve results will add to costs and may impact the short-term goals of the organization.

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree with 13+ years of industry experience
  • 5 - 8 years of previous people management experience

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this area. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Language Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
