Tax Manager at Mechanics Bank in Irvine, California

Job Description:

Mechanics Bank is currently searching for a Tax Manager role based at our Irvine Office. In this role you will manage tax accounting, compliance and decision support enterprise wide in multi-jurisdictional environment.

Ensure compliance with all tax regulations, as well as planning, development and implementation of strategies to optimize the Bank's tax position. Manage GAAP income tax accounting models and related financial statement and regulatory reporting.

What you will do:

• Manage financial reporting (GAAP income tax accounting and regulatory) in accordance with current tax laws and accounting pronouncements.


• Coordinate with internal and external resources to complete tax compliance across all tax types - income, franchise/excise, sales/use, property, payroll and local.


• Maintain currency with federal, state and local tax legislation and accounting pronouncements


• Research and documentation of material tax positions taken in return and ensure proper reflection in financial statements. Manage and support tax research to identify tax implications of proposed transactions and provide tax advice to business partners.


• Build and foster cross-functional relationships within and outside of the finance department. Supervise, mentor and develop internal staff

Who you are:

• Current knowledge of ASC 740 and related pronouncements.


• Knowledge of accounting principles and processes.


• Strong knowledge of federal and state tax laws and regulations and capability of application in new situations.


• Knowledge of financial services accounting and tax concepts


• Advanced proficiency with Excel


• Skill in analyzing processes to determine the potential of automation for greater efficiencies.


• Ability to work independently and at all levels necessary for successful completion of projects.


• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with internal and external business partners at all levels.


• Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance required


• Master's Degree preferred
