Job Description:

This Senior Scientist position is an opportunity to be a leader in on market product support in the Assay Diagnostic R&D group. This position will work with a team of scientists and engineers in the design and execution of experiments and analysis of data related to assay and process improvement projects as well as root cause investigations. Experience in process development, statistical analysis & design of experiments (DOE), error modeling and specification setting is desired.Familiarity with Six Sigma structured problem solving is beneficial.This position collaborates with groups across IDEXX.

What will you do?


  • Perform a variety of scientific activities to resolve issues related to recently launched, existing or in-development products.


  • Develop understanding of issues from customers, regulators and others and plans strategy to approach these problems. May visit or interact with customers to collect data, samples and other information. Coordinate closely with customer support, operations, medical affairs and others to develop full understanding of customer situations. Prioritize work based on urgency of issue and business requirements.


  • Analyze issues, tests returned products, performs experiments and develops fixes and product improvements.


  • Maintain technical understanding of how products function and knowledge of known failure causes and perform ongoing verification and validation of component changes, supplier changes and process changes. Update calibration methodologies.


  • Partner with new product development to incorporate learning into current projects. Maintain knowledge of applicable regulations, required regulatory approvals and constraints of a regulated environment.


  • Make frequent technical presentations to explain customer experiences and product implications.


  • Coordinate change orders, document change order and control document management, process optimization, corrective actions, process deviations and changes to on-market products, which may involve field trials.


What do you need to succeed?

  • PhD required.


  • Exhibits in-depth understanding of biological and chemical principles and concepts as they relate to commercial products.


  • Work context involves novel and variable situations requiring analytical and creative thinking. Demonstrates complex problem-solving skills and applies broad range of tools to critically evaluate, interpret and summarize data with ability to propose next steps.

  • Excellent verbal, technical writing and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to maintain accurate and clear documentation. Good presentation skills.


  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and with others.


  • Excellent laboratory skills and technique.


  • Goal-oriented and highly motivated individual.


  • Proficient with MS Office.
