Position Description 


OBJECTIVES: 


The Direct Support Professional provides care to clients and administrative support to the Adult Day Program. 


QUALIFICATIONS: 


High School diploma or equivalent. One year of clerical, computer, and customer service experience.  See background requirements below. 


The Direct Support Professional must be able to work independently and cooperatively within a team environment. The incumbent will assist Community Programs to effectively implement Individual Service Plans (ISP), Behavior Individual Service Plan (BISP), and provide care to clients. The incumbent must be able to organize and follow through with duties demonstrating the capability of handling several different and ongoing tasks. The Direct Support Professional must be able to cope with the pressure of deadlines, respond to special requests and be flexible regarding job tasks. The incumbent must be neat, courteous, personable and able to communicate effectively. The incumbent must maintain a professional attitude and interact appropriately with others including community agencies and clients of varying functioning levels.  The incumbent must be proficient in computer use and able to type 50 wpm accurately. The incumbent must have good physical stamina/endurance to stand for long periods of time. The incumbent will maintain acceptable work standards in all areas including attendance/punctuality and preform all other duties as assigned.


KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS: 


Administrative Support - Processing, Tracking and Reporting


The Direct Support Professional will perform administrative clerical duties including but not limited to; documenting client goal attainment into their daily log note, documenting behaviors to include the positive reinforcement used into BISP and generate absent notes for clients that are not at program. The Direct Support Professional will ensure accuracy with documentation, documenting all services provided according to program policies and state licensing guidelines. The Direct Support Professional will maintain will meet required deadlines for paperwork submission. 


Client Care 


The Direct Support Professional will assist in the implementation of individualized plans by giving reinforcers, providing one-on-one assistance and/or guidance. The Direct Support Professional will assist in the necessary preparation for daily activities to include client arrival and departure as well as adhering to participant specific schedules, supervision levels, and protocols. The Direct Support Professional will assist in the provision of services to include assistance with community outings, ordering lunch, feeding, toileting, and ensuring safety throughout the facility.  The Direct Support Professional will be an active member of the Adult Day Program team and will assist team members with all client care as well as communicate all pertinent information to program staff. The Direct Support Professional must also demonstrate empathy and concern for individuals with developmental and physical disabilities, and have a passion for working to maximize their independence/growth.


Relationship Management 


The Direct Support Professional will professionally communicate routinely and consistently with all co-workers, staff and customers to include but not limited to; participants, care givers, and stakeholders. In addition, the Direct Support Professional will deal effectively and calmly with non-routine situations. The Direct Support Professional is required to interact and work cooperatively and effectively within a Team.


 


Background Check Requirements


 **Per the Colorado Revised Statutes 2016; Title 27- Behavioral Health: 27-90-111: Employment of personnel – screening of applicants – disqualifications from employment: 


(4) Prior to the department's permanent employment of a person in a position that would require that person to have direct contact with any vulnerable person, the executive director or any division head of the department shall make an inquiry to the director of the Colorado bureau of investigation to ascertain whether the person has a criminal history. The person's employment shall be conditional upon a satisfactory criminal background check. Any criminal background check conducted pursuant to this subsection (4) shall include but need not be limited to arrests, conviction records, and the disposition of any criminal charges. The department shall require the person to have his or her fingerprints taken by a local law enforcement agency. The local law enforcement agency shall forward those fingerprints to the Colorado bureau of investigation for the purpose of fingerprint processing utilizing the files and records of the Colorado bureau of investigation and the federal bureau of investigation. The department shall pay for the costs of criminal background checks conducted pursuant to this section out of existing appropriations.


**Per Contract C2016-0024 – Colorado Springs School District 11:


C.32 BACKGROUND CHECKS OF EMPLOYEES


Provider shall ensure that all assigned staff have undergone background checks with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, and have been fingerprinted and are approved to work with children. The CDE is clear in its requirements and intent that the Provider is required to ensure all its employees (and/or subcontractors) who will interact with students will be fingerprinted and background­ checked pursuant to CDE licensure procedures. The District relies on the Provider to properly utilize the data it receives from background investigations and fingerprinting, and expects the Provider to use that information in its decisions to hire staff to provide services under this agreement The Provider is also responsible for informing the District if any negative information surfaces that may be detrimental to the conduct and performance under this agreement.


a) The Contractor shall not utilize, in the performance of this contract, any laborer or employee who has been convicted of a violent crime or a crime of such nature (i.e. child related offenses) as to categorize the person as being unsuitable for working around school children, or has engaged in such conduct, in the last five years, as to be similarly categorized. Suitability shall be determined by performance of security/background checks (as are necessary in light of the potential of contact with District students, staff, property, or sensitive records maintained at District sites) by the contractor on all laborers and employees utilized in the performance of the work.


b) When there is reasonable doubt regarding a particular person's suitability, a request may be made through the District Contracting Officer for an approval/opinion prior to the individual beginning work. The Contractor shall submit copies of all security/background checks performed within twenty four (24) hours of a request by the District for such information. The District may request copies of these security/background checks up to twelve (12) months after completion of the specific project (site work). Failure to complete or submit any required security/background check requested by the District. may result in immediate cancellation of work in process and/or removal from the active vendor and Offerers list for up to one year.


c) The Contractor, Its laborers and employees shall not fraternize or otherwise communicate with the students except in cases of safety and like necessities.

Pay: $ 15 per hour
