If you are an experienced Tool Design Engineer looking for an opportunity to grow, Emerson has an exciting opportunity for you!  Manufacturer of large custom-designed control valves, you will work in a dynamic and high-tech production facility based in our Marshalltown, Iowa location.

AS A TOOL DESIGN ENGINEER YOU WILL: 


  • Design sophisticated Tooling, Jigs, Fixtures, Gauging, and Facilities Equipment utilizing SolidWorks for the design work. This involves analyzing requirements and design items to accomplish desired purpose with safety in mind. If required, build and maintain a bill of materials (BOM) for the solution. Tool Design Engineers will lead their project through successful start-up.
  • Work with Product Engineering and others on new product development with respect to DFM concepts, GD&T application, and factory manufacturing capabilities.
  • Coordinate with Tool Room supervisor to ensure material specifications are met. Initiate the purchase of fixture components when necessary.
  • Guide other Emerson global manufacturing sites regarding existing work holding solutions or other manufacturing methodologies.
  • Responsible for maintaining design records and the tool design database that contains tooling engineering drawings.
  • Work closely with the manufacturing personnel on the shop floor as needed to successfully execute projects.
  • Investigate manufacturing problems to specify root cause using an appropriate structured methodology. Take appropriate actions given the results.
  • Support the tool room and outside shops during fabrication of project components.

WHO YOU ARE:

You balance planning with actions. You effectively communicate in various settings: one-on-one, small and large groups, or among diverse styles and position levels. You make new connections and build relationships in other areas and teams. You drill down to root causes to gather relevant information.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • BS Engineering Degree: BS Technology degree or 8-10 years of equivalent experience in manufacturing. engineering.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:


  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Knowledge and application of functional gauging and measuring instruments.
  • Understands material properties and behavior, and stress-strain analysis to supplement FEA via SolidWorks or ANSYS.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process capabilities.
  • Strong skills in Word, Excel, and Access.
  • CAD skills using SolidWorks, Siemens NX, and AutoCAD.
  • Problem solving skills with structured methods.
  • Verbal and written technical communication skills.
