About the Position

The Logistics Area Manager is responsible for managing the inbound logistics, production support, and distribution functions to maximize efficiencies while ensuring timely delivery of finished goods to customers and outside distribution centers. This role leads a team of logistics employees across all shifts using effective leadership, planning, technical, communication, and coaching skills to empower work teams to produce high quality results that meet our customer needs. 

Essential Functions

  • Effectively leads people, teams, and process; sets expectations, tracks results, and manages accountability for the Logistics department.

  • Organizes, manages and analyzes daily requirements and key performance indicators to consistently meet customer expectations.

  • Evaluates team performance efficiencies and coordinates necessary resources to optimize schedule attainment.


  • Manage finished product shuttling and shipping to maintain customer service at or above goal levels

  • Collaborate with Corporate Distribution on external warehouse and distribution needs as well as other initiatives

  • Manage receiving and shipping functions to meet production needs while optimizing space utilization

  • Accurately manage inventory, including unknowns, cycle counts, and variance

  • Minimize damage and quality issues and maintain storage areas at an acceptable sanitation level.

  • Balance the needs of purchasing, manufacturing, distribution, transportation, and customer service in the areas of responsibility

  • Lead and direct the continuous improvement process in all areas of logistics, including production support, shipping, and receiving

  • Leads, manages and develops employees while building an effective and collaborative team.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills; writes clearly, speaks persuasively, and facilitates groups effectively.

  • Decisive and competent using sound judgment based on standard practices.

  • Understands and uses CM computer software, including MS Office, inventory management, and other proprietary and database software.


  • Possess in-depth knowledge of warehouse operations and working knowledge of manufacturing processes

 Supervisory Responsibilities

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; delegating tasks to and partnering with employees who have leadership responsibilities; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience:


  • 2-year degree in business, logistics, or equivalent work experience

  • Demonstrated experience effectively leading individuals, teams or work groups.


  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in logistics/manufacturing environment with continuously increasing levels of responsibility

  • Strong preference for proficiency with order fulfillment and prior food experience

 Attendance:

To support ongoing business goals and successfully contribute to your team, acceptable levels of performance and attendance must be consistently maintained, including attending all required meetings and events.  Requires the flexibility to work non-standard hours as needed.

 Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position requires working in both manufacturing and office environments.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone along with reaching. Specific vision abilities include close vision requirements due to computer work. Moderate noise, ability to work in a confined area, and ability to sit at a computer for an extended period of time are also included.  Must be able to effectively communicate and work in a dynamic environment.  You may also be on your feet for several hours a day and may be exposed to a variety of physical demands that require you to lift heavy objects, climb stairs, exert energy, bend, twist and squat and use tools and equipment in an indoor production environment that has a high level of food dust and limited climate control while wearing PPE.
