Job Description

I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

The Digital Assistant Editor plans and executes food and recipe content creation for EatingWell.com, social media, newsletters and partners. This position will:


  • Work with Senior Food Editor to create high-quality, differentiated digital food and recipe content to drive growth through SEO, social, email and other developing outlets.

  • Pitch, write and edit daily trending food, news and affiliate content for site, email, social platforms and other outlets.

  • Edit and produce recipe galleries, as needed.

  • Partner with digital editorial team and social media, email and SEO leads to develop food and recipe content that will drive growth across channels.

  • Collaborate with Social Media Editor to ideate content ideas and headlines; work with the design team to create social assets and infographics to support promotion of editorial content on social platforms.

  • Collaborate with newsletter team to ideate and create content for email promotion

  • Work with the Senior Digital Food Editor and SEO manager to build out library of healthy cooking content, including step-by-step how-to guides and techniques, food guides and ingredient explainers, creating new content or optimize existing content to address SEO needs.

  • Collaborate with counterparts on the print editorial team to align on major brand initiatives, franchises and to support cross-platform sales opportunities.

  • Opportunity to participate in digital video creation and promotion including but not limited to brainstorming topics, writing scripts, doing background research, appearing on-screen and site integration.

  • Leverage available metrics and research to ensure that editorial plans align with consumer needs and trends.

  • Work with Senior Food Editor on editorial planning and sponsored programs.

  • Manage editorial programs-including editorial planning and content creation-to drive audience growth and engagement and facilitate sponsorship opportunities.

  • Participate in other digital projects as needed.

  • Be a thought leader in the digital food space. Attend and/or present at industry events to increase brand and personal profile internally and externally and grow contacts network of freelance writers and editors and expand skills.

III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education:

Bachelor's degree with journalism and/or nutrition/food emphasis preferred.

Culinary degree or experience as a food editor preferred.

Experience:

  • 1 year as a nutrition/food writer or editor, digitally focused experience strongly preferred.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


  • Experience with digital food, news and nutrition content creation, keyword research, search-engine optimization and blogging preferred.

  • Photography and food styling skills a major plus.

  • On-screen video experience a plus.

  • Knowledge of, and demonstrated passion for, food and nutrition content and digital media.

  • Experience using content management systems.

  • Understanding of online engagement. Experience analyzing web metrics.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
